Not true I'm afraid - a felled tree ie timber does not live on, it's as dead as a dodo - it shrinks and expands but is definately dead or you'd have little buds, twigs and leaves growing out of your flute :) .

Yes top notes above g and bottom D were gifficult for me Practise on the embouchure is what it takes - long tones on all the notes going up to the highest you can get G? and then when that's achieved move up to A ...

It's getting there - can I suggest that you sit upright with your head up and on a chair rather than a sofa - breathing is a major part of flute playing and sitting in a correct position will help IMHO.

but I would guess that is the stain getting into the end grain preferentially and making that area darker. Hmm doesn't look like that to me - its on some of the end grain and also on the the other front piece - looks as though it's previously been stained and then sanded, except that there is a pen...

Those are not dovetail joints - strange staining is that intentional?
