Charlie and Gordon and List: I've never played an E or an E flat Flute. Have either of you ? My main reason for seeking one of these is they would be easy to play when you're tired. I've got A Ralph Sweet Flute in F which is a jewel, easy to play and sounds great, which is perfect at the end of a da...

Dear List;
Could anyone recommend a flute maker that makes Flutes in either of these Keys? Both Mark Hoza and Ralph Sweet make E Flutes, is anyone familiar with Mark Hoza's Flutes? If so what do you think of em?

List: My son who is on a Bass Forum sent this to me. It sounds kind of like they are describing each of these guys on the loop (maybe a game or Cartoon show). It's Japanese I guess but does seem to have an Yiddish feel. it could be a Polka as it's in 2/4(I think) No reason why it coulnt be introduce...

Mike: James list is quite interesting from a historical viewpoint;He is playing 1812 quickstep which is an old Fife tune that was transformed from a RevWar period tune called Welcome here again Brighton camp is also known as the girl I left behind which is late 18th century. The pop eye song or sail...

Mike and list: There is a very large number of popular secular tunes from the 18th century. Instrumental music, mainly jigs and reels. That were quite popular in England, Scotland Ireland as well as the colonials. As opposed to Irish Music , most of this is of English and Scottich origin and is avai...

List: Oddly enough my main music is 18th century popular music, jigs and reels like soldiers joy, Fishers hornpipe, moon and seven stars etc. I also play alot of fife and drum tunes on the whistle that I learned while in a Fife and drum Corp., as well as Irish music, however I was wondering what typ...

Drowsy Maggie reminds me alot of Man of the house. They are both fun tunes to play. The bottom line to playing these tunes or any other is just to practice over and over and over again....you know you're there when you can think about what you are having for dinner as you play the tune. of note Drow...

Joe and List: Joe I noticed you mentioned on the favorite whistle thread about a Soprano O'Grady whistle , could you or anyone else tell us about these whistles? Do those of us with WADO need to scuff up some of these to add to our ever growing collections?. I did do a search and saw that a store in...

Riki & Marilyn: I read B> Franklins Auto bio and couldnt find that statement , not that's it's not there. But Riki, the bottom line is there is no documentation written or an instrument that would indicate whistles were around in the 18th century. I wish there were I play them at 18th century ev...

Marilyn: That's funny that the fifers told you "a woman would not have played the Whistle". I started out as a Fifer and I would have told you no one was playing the Whistle man or woman! As far as I know whistles as we know them did not exist in the 18th century. There were Flutes of cour...
