Thanks for the tips!
I've been playing with the orchestra for a few weeks now, and it's going very well.
They ended up switching my part-- since there was no oboe, they've got me playing that instead of the flute part, and it's a lot slower!
Dress rehearsals start soon, so wish me luck!

Erle's email address?

Hey guys, I'm in the market for a Bb tube for my Syn. Is there anywhere online I could find such a one, or should I contact the maker directly? If the latter is the case, what is his email address? I remember someone passed it along to me, but that thread has long since passed into obscurity, and I'...

In case you missed this little fact in other threads, I'm completely in love with my Syn:lol:. If you're only interested in the D whistle, it's only about $40 American. While I'm not a terribly experienced player, I do have a picky ear when it comes to sound. This is a sweet, not-piercing whistle, a...

Here here. The sooner I get my eyes off the page, and preferably closed, the better my playing-- and the more organic it feels to play.

...as I gruelingly transpose Brigadoon long into the night. :o

I have to second (or third or fourth) the relative ease of just memorizing a tune. Once I play something enough times to get it sounding how I want, I usually have it in "muscle memory"-- my hands know the music so I don't have to look. Hell, I even have the intro to Brigadoon committed to...

I'm in tinwhistle love!

My Syn just came in today, and after a quick bubblebath (it was turning my fingers gray in seconds) I can't stop playing it! Unfortunately, I have this hacking cough right now that doesn't permit fast intakes of breath... oh the tragic irony! So it's slow scales for me today, and getting used to C a...

I am of the class of sightreader extraordinaire. Progress on the Brigadoon score continues. I am playing it on D, C, and Eb whistles (or rather, 3 tubes on me Syn). I do the mental gymnastics (as you very eloquently put it) to play all of the different keys. I believe that the score actually uses ev...

Oh, that's lovely!
Perhaps Burnsbyrne might share those dots with the class??

(By the way- dots are like tinwhistle tablature, right? I can read music fine too---)

I need to move to a less culturally retarded country. You could start by moving to a less culturally retarded state  Loren I'm actually born and bred in Massachusetts. (Martha's Vineyard.) I'm just attending a prancy private school in Florida. So let's be nice. I'm not southern or anythi...

Thanks for all the great Syn advice! I have one winging its merry way to me from Arizona as we speak! (Thanks Dad! ) After taking a look at the Brigadoon score in terms of all the many many many (many) keychanges, I decided on the D/C/Eb whistle-- it's going to be SO much easier to master thes...

I only know three people who celebrate Boxing Day.
And about a dozen who even know what it is.

I need to move to a less culturally retarded country.

Hey, thanks! I think I will go for the D/C/Eb Syn for Solstice-- very versatile, especially considering that Eb and C are two of the trickier keys that are most common in the score I'm working on. Thanks for all the advice-- one more question-- If I get the 3-body set, can I then buy additional bodi...

Hmmm. I like the sound of the Alba as well, but I need something loud enough for the orchestra and tunable-- and I love the sound of the Syn. do you think a Syn would be the best bet in its price range? (Under 75 bucks) I'm looking for the ideal Solstice-present-whistle from my father, but I've held...
