Re: Crawford, Hayes and Doyle

I'll be away from Connecticut one weekend in May, so I'll be hoping the show isn't then! *fingers crossed*

And I'll be looking forward to both the Kevin and John CD and the eventual Teetotalers one.

Kevin, when do you expect the one with you and Mr. Doyle to be available?

Re: Northeast Chiff gathering?

I made the 2006 gathering, which was a grand time, and I'd be up for another. All but one or two of my summer weekends are already taken up with other commitments though, so I'll just see if the date decided on works out for me.

Re: Jerry Freeman whistles.

I was reminded by this thread that I'd still never bought one of Jerry's Mellow Dogs, so a few minutes ago I ordered both a D Mellow Dog and a C Blackbird. And here I thought that my flutes had cured my WhOA. Curse you, Jerry!

Unless you need a Delrin instrument, I'd seriously consider a Casey Burns Folk Flute in Mopane wood. It's still cheaper than the most popular Delrin flutes, and gives you a nice bonus-it's wood! There's nothing like a wooden flute in feel and tone, though I still like a good Delrin flute too. I'd c...

Thanks for the information/opinions everyone. And apologies for my use of the word "up" when talking about moving from my Tipple to one of the delrins! I got an email from a maker who's finishing up a batch of new delrin flutes, so I'm in the process of being tempted. Hmm...maybe I should ...

Moving up from a Tipple?

My first flute is a Tipple D (with both the lip plate and the wedge) which I've had for about nine months now. It's been a fine instrument for learning on, and I feel like I've been making slow but steady progress with it. Lately though I've been thinking about getting another flute, if not necessar...

If I posted mine in the right section in the first place, it probably wouldn't have resulted in a duplicate. My bad.

via Kevin Crawford: ----- DAMIEN O'KANE'S TENOR BANJO STOLEN!!!! Please forward........ Hi People, I had my tenor banjo stolen last night in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, the Quayside. I'd just been pondering the Copley & Boegli Delrin, so thanks for the timely posting of your extensive comments!

I don't suppose by any chance you've also had the chance to play one of the Forbes delrins? I've been wondering how the two compare....

I saw them perform on Friday, and they were both amazing players and a whole lot of fun. Oh, and they mentioned that they'll be teaching at East Durham again next summer, and also at the Banjo Burke Festival this coming October.

Thanks for posting the excellent recording!

I went last year as a new whistle player who'd been playing for only about six or seven months, and, despite knowing a tune or two well enough to probably not embarass myself (much), I chose never to play more than scales while I was at the gather. I still had a grand time, listening to others play ...

The host that interests me the most these days is Media Temple's grid server , which is $20/month but that gets you a whopping 100 gigs of storage (that's more than my computer has!) and a terabyte of bandwidth. That's by far the best deal I've seen out there, and they have lots of satisfied custom...

Another review of the new GFM whistles

I was lucky enough to get to try out two of Chuck Tilbury's new whistles over the weekend as part of the current GFM whistle tour. The whistles came as a set of one head and two bodies (soprano D and mezzo G) which were interchangeable. The first thing I noticed was the workmanship. Though we'd been...

My understanding from when Chuck originally announced the tour for the new models (in this thread) was that the new G body is just a mezzo, not a low G, which is why it's interchangable with the same head used on the D.

He's got plans for doing low whistles in the not-too-distant future though....
