Re: Local Hero ..

You know I've lived here my whole life and never properly seen the northern lights :(

I did once see them on a clear evening as I got off the train, but it was daylight so the effect was minimal.

I've never seen Local Hero either to be honest.

Re: Capos & Cheating

It's not cheating, you can't cheat. Do whatever you can to make the sound you want come out of the guitar.

Re: Local Hero ..

According to this page (http://www.doog.net/music/details/21414.html) The Acetones were Alan Clark (piano) Alan Darby, Roddy Murray (guitars) Jimmy Yuill (whistle) Mark Winchester (accordion) Brian Rowan (bass) Ed Bicknell (drums) Wikipedia says Ed Bicknell used to manage Dire Straits so I don't thi...

Re: In Search of the Perfect Pick

My favourite picks are Pickboy carbon ones with a pot leaf motif raised up off the main body of the pick. They have a great sharp point, are easy to grip with the raised motif and are rock solid. Unfortunately they're also hard to find :( So now I just use standard Dunlop 500s - .96mm, they're solid...

I don't soak my oats. But then I also microwave them... this has caused a couple of arguments with my Dad...

Re: I hate the cold

We've had a thaw the last few days. There's still some snow on the ground, especially inland. But it's a lot milder and the rain is helping to get rid of it.

I hate rain though, bring back the snow anyday.

Re: Can someone recommend a good effects processor?

Please, take the gear snobbery elsewhere. Sorry, it's not gear snobbery I'm trying to offer constructive advice, most musicians and engineers I know universally detest Behringer gear. I'm all for saving money and buying value gear but this isn't like a tin whistle where you can get decent results o...

Re: Can someone recommend a good effects processor?

I wasn't going to post in this thread as my experiences are with rock bands and the electric guitar, so my effects needs are very different to yours. But there is one general rule that I can confidently put forward that will help you. If you buy a cheap effects processor it will sound exactly like a...

Re: I hate the cold

I live in Birmingham, Alabama. Deep south. At this writing, it is 16 degrees F with winds at about 12 MPH. Let me tell you about my week. Forecasters here were predicting an inch of snow on Thursday. Some predictions were that we could get as much as 2 inches of snow. As a result, some school syste...

Re: I hate the cold

Does the Irish Sea produce sea effect snows? Where a cooler air mass picks up warmer humid air from the Irish Sea and dumps it as snow in Wales, Scotland, and England? Most of the snow we've had has been coming from the arctic and scandinavia. If we were getting stuff from the west it would likely ...

You should thank them, it's rubbish (though Eva Green redeems it a little).

My street's been buried under snow for 3 weeks now. I'm getting a bit fed up of the stuff.

Re: Troubleshoot my cat

How's the cat, Simon? Stoned on catnip. Large clump duly detected in the box; no abnormal feline behavior observed. Skin pinching shows no sign of dehydration. I've never seen the cat drink, but the level does drop in his bowl. I think everything's OK. You never mentioned what kind of food you feed...

Re: Troubleshoot my cat

Is he actually eating the food? What did you switch from and to? How's his general behaviour and mood, have they changed? My cat was a bit ill a few months ago and didn't leave anything in his litter tray for a week, but he wasn't really eating any food either. Just a few nibbles here and there then...
