FS: Aebi 8-key Rudall model flute, blackwood SOLD

Hi, I'm selling my Tom Aebi eight-keyed Rudall model flute. Made from blackwood. I got it new from Tom in 2010 and used it on various recordings and for about 500 concerts and countless sessions all over the world. This has been my prime touring instrument until September 2019. Reason for sale is th...

Re: good mics for flute recording...

Leaving lurking mode... My favourite mic for flute is the Sennheiser MD 441. Used Rode NT1A (cheap) and Horch RM3 (ridiculously expensive) in studios before, both nice, but I still prefer the 441 which I use for studio work and playing live these days. It sounds less hissy than most condensers to me...

Re: Regarding African Blackwood changes on CITES Jan 2nd, 20

Coming from lurking mode... There are some inaccuracies in Steffen's article. No, the blackwood doesn't all have to be registered before Jan 1st. For one thing it takes several weeks for the paperwork to process and I doubt if anyone will have their new CITES permits by then. Remember also that this...

Re: Question to folks who play eight-key simple system flute

I'm using the foot keys all the time, and be it only for the best middle c the flute can produce, xox xxx,, - honk. But there are a few nice tunes that work well with them, too.

Re: What is 'good' tone?

Interesting topic, however for me good tone is what the player likes, and that's highly subjective - if he/she is after a soft mellow tone that's fine and good, and if she/he prefers to bark the flatware off the shelf that's fine and good too (however the publican's opinion might be different). An o...

Re: MK plain alloy in A

The lining of the receiving end of the slide (the "headjoint") is plastic, the other end is aluminum tubing that has been turned down to fit into the plastic-lined headjoint. Neat design.

Re: MK plain alloy in A

Received mine today. It's red. It's awesome. Best A I've ever played and one of the best whistles I ever played too. Quite some back pressure, which I love, you can really lean into it. MK signature tone, quite some breath, absolutely not clean, not 'traditional', but I think if you buy an MK you ex...

Re: Help/advice with Olwell options

A fully lined head always increases the risk of cracking, no matter how well made the flutes are. I wouldn't consider antique Rudalls and Prattens not well made due to their cracked headjoints... Wood never stops moving, so there risk of cracking is always there. When a piece of wood is acclimatised...

FS: Kelleher bellows and bag

Hi, posted this over at the UIE forum a while back but I figured it'll probably get more views here. Meant to make up a practise set from these but never actually got to it, so they're basically new. Kelleher bellows, in Wenge, fabric trim, full size, antique brass finish. Comes with rubber connecto...

FS: Sindt whistle in C

Hi, posted this over at the UIE forum a while back but I figured it'll probably find a new owner here more easily. I'm selling a C whistle made by John Sindt. It's fairly new. Very good condition, like new actually, only has some slight patina. I can send a photo, but it basically looks like a Sindt...
