I have a Tony Dixon DX005 D whistle. It separates about 1/3 of the way down and the body by itself is roughly 7 1/4 inches in length. The section with the head is roughly 5 1/2 inches long.

Re: Beginner flute upgrade: Galeon or Copley?
So I received a Copley keyless Delrin with close hole spacing and offset holes about 2 weeks ago. WOW! First of all, it looks really great. I went ahead and got the silver rings on it and it looks very nice! I had an opportunity to try a blackwood keyless for a while back in November. It was really ...

Re: Tips for beginner when going from B to D
Hi Terry,
Yes, I feel like I'm blowing down more for low D and getting good tone. It's just when I need to make a big jump, like from B to D where I have trouble.
I guess it just takes practice. Thanks for the link!

Tips for beginner when going from B to D
Playing a D flute, I've noticed when a tune has a low D note following B that I have trouble sounding the D. For example, in the A part of this tune -

It seems like slowing the air down a little helps some but I'm wondering what else I need to try. Any tips?

Re: Benefits of HEAVY/heavy wall whistles?
Now that I think about it, I said the Wild appears to have the thickest wall but actually it may be the Dixon. However, the Dixon is plastic and so is much lighter in weight.

Re: Benefits of HEAVY/heavy wall whistles?
I started out with a Clark, then got a Dixon DX005. Both are very light, and sound "light" to me. Then I got a Wild D and it took me a while to get used to the weight. Then I was able to get a Killarney in D and that is what I'm playing mostly now. The weight of the Killarney seems to be b...

Re: Looking to try a low whistle
I'm a beginner and I have an MK Kelpie and a Dixon plastic low D. I really like the MK but I do find it quite a bit heavier than the Dixon. I think the weight takes some getting used to.

Re: Beginner flute upgrade: Galeon or Copley?
Thank you all for you input. On the Copley, is the hole spacing reasonable for a person with average size hands? I understand he can make accommodations but I think I would prefer it without special modifications.

Beginner flute upgrade: Galeon or Copley?
I'm a beginner whistle player (about 3 years). I have a Tony Dixon flute/low whistle combo (TB022 I think) that I also enjoy playing. I'm wondering what suggestions you might have for a flute upgrade. I'm considering delrin flutes since I don't think I can justify one made from wood. My questions ar...
