Screech, tell me more. I don't think the boy needs something that can be plugged in right now, however. Hi Mary I just re-read what i wrote and i see the error in what i said. The APX5NA does still plug in, it has a very good bridge pick up in it. The APX9NA has the same bridge pick up but also has...

Yamaha APX9NA. It's a nylon strung folk guitar and my weapon of choice. If you shop around you can get quite a good deal on them.

The cheaper option is the APX5NA which uses cheaper woods and doesn't have the microphone in it, still a very good guitar for a beginner.

Wold it be considered bad form to use an amplifier in a session?

I finger pick the melody and i can hardly hear myself in room with people talking let alone people playing musical instruments.

In your mouth, try to imagine focusing the air stream and really driving it into the end of the whistle. Hold your cheeks firm and in and get your tongue up off the floor of the mouth and use it to channel the air into a narrow stream and push really hard from the diaphragm against the back pressure...

My advice... Determine what style you want to play and what you want to sound like. Find a teacher who can teach this. Guitar forums will probably be a good place to find info on teachers near you. Buy the guitar that can give you that sound in that style. A good teacher will be able to advise on th...

I'm happily working through Clare McKenna's Guide to the Irish Whistle tuition book at the moment. Just finished the techniques bit with all the tunes in that under me belt and now i'm onto the extra 99 tunes at the back of the book. Well good stuff and plenty to keep me busy and happy for a while y...

Extra virgin olive oil is a cold press straight from the olives and contains lots of nutrients and solid particles that will make your flute go manky. Very good and healthy for eating though. Extra light olive oil is filtered and very purified, contains very little nutrients and is usually from the ...

Hemp There was a European company making didgeridoos out of hemp (they stopped making them for some reason). The ones i've seen and heard are really nice sounding and extremely durable. I'd like to see a whistle and many other instruments made from this stuff as well. Although from what i know of t...

I think i'd use the term "clean" to describe a pure sound. My burke is pure in that it has a nice clean sound. It still has plenty of harmonics in it, but those harmonics work cleanly and therefore subtlely with the fundamental as apposed to uncleanly and therefore more forcefully with it ...
