Re: Short review of the Galeon Firth Pond & Co. delrin flute

I just wanted to update my review. I wrote to Andy because the low D of the Firth Pond flute was not strong enough for me. Here is his reply: The flute was designed weaker than Prattens, you can try to make the plug closer to the embouchure center to make the low D stronger, but this will make a hig...

Short review of the Galeon Firth Pond & Co. delrin flute

The correct spelling is Galeón. But I didn't want to put that in the title. To give you my limited experience: I have three Copley & Boegli flutes of different sizes, and have two Mark Hoza Kything flutes in D. (These are Perfected Pratten flutes. Mark's flutes made of Australian iron wood and h...

Re: Krazy Glue Removal

I repair lots of clarinets. Usually after the SuperGlue is hard, I can just scrape it off with an Exacto knife. Scraping at an angle sharper than 90 degrees will make it so that you don't leave deep gouges. Stell wool can then be used to clean up any scratches.

Reconditioned German 6-keyed flute for sale at you-know-wher

See the eBay listing link below for the flute I am selling. It is a WEIKERT, stamped with a model name of 1st QUALITY. It was probably made before/around 1900. It has a metal lined head joint and the tuning slide is also metal lined. This plays quite well in tune to modern pitch, when pulled out as ...

iFlute3 — Irish flute made in China

I just thought that others might be interested in the appearance of a Chinese-made Irish flute called the iPipe3. It sells for 1480 Yuan, which is $221 USD. It can be found on the Chinese Amazon-like site taobao.com. There are a handful of Youtube videos of this, and it sounds quite nice and in tune...

For Sale: M. Hoza Irish flute in E

I am selling my special-order Hoza flute in the key of E in a no-reserve auction on eBay. Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=181995905921 I really love my Kything flute in D from Mr. Hoza (http://woodenflutemaker.com/), which I got around 10 years ago. So right a...

I went from Tipple D and E to Mark Hoza flutes. WoodenFluteMaker.com.
The cheapest Hoza flutes cost about the same as Delrin, and are fantastic.
I still haven't gotten to try the Delrin flutes. :sniffle:
I still play my Tipple G.
And still enjoy playing the Tipple flutes from time to time also.

The "black beauty" D+ whistle arrived in Arkansas, and will be on its way to Craig Stuntz as soon as I get his address. Very nice whistle! I like the modest air requirements. Seems to me this whistle will make itself heard in a group, as it has bright and complex sound up high. I really li...

I highly recommend using the wedge on keyless flutes made of pvc pipe. Tipple only recommends them for his flutes that are somewhere around the D and E sizes. (I know he didn't recommend using one on the smaller G flute.) To me, it doesn't change the tone much, but improves the intonation of the upp...

I tried making a G flute with that size pipe. Mine didn't come out well in tune comparing high and low registers. Does yours have that problem. If not, I wonder if you would share your hole positions and diameters.

Wow. Hard to believe they could be THAT bad, but I do believe you.
Thanks for the information. I will save my money and my time by not trying to tweak Pakistani flutes!

Technical question about Pakistani flutes

I tried asking this the the sticky thread, but must be most people don't notice new things there, so please permit me to ask here: One of the posts (in the sticky thread) here said that the flute seemed to “defy physics” (being incredibly out of tune). Is the problem with these flutes that the holes...

Question: One of the posts here said that the flute seemed to defy physics (being incredibly out of tune). Is the problem with these flutes that the holes have been drilled in the wrong position, or are the dimensions of the bore all out of whack? Or both? I can adjust the position of holes and repo...
