Re: Has anyone played a Tru-Tone practice chanter?

[Thread revival. - Mod] I'm guessing by now, if you are still interested in piping, you've found the Bob Dunsire Forum, related to all things piping. If not. it's easily searchable by that name. Similar to this style of forum but, as I said, related to all thing piping. So a much better resource. T...

Re: Fife forum ??

My guess would be that forums with extensive discussion of fifes might tend to be devoted to fife and drum corps? This might be okay to you (or, maybe that's precisely what you're wanting?), and such places might indeed have a lot of information on technique and maintenance and makers (I assume tha...

Fife forum ??

I know there's a lot of crossover players here, so can somebody advise me of a website that has a Fife forum similar to this type of forum?
When I put it in that search I just don't seem to get the results I'm looking for.
Thank you.

For Sale Shannon Flute $250

This Sweet Shannon flute is in like new condition and was recently purchased by me through this site. Unfortunately because of personal issues I am not able to devote the time and effort it takes to progress on it, so no use letting it sit gathering dust. I don't think there's any need for me to go ...

Re: Alternative to Sweet Shannon flute?

Well now there's no need for alternative for a Shannon for me, because my actual Shannon flute should be here very shortly. It was the one recently listed for sale and I was fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of it. I'll report back with my thoughts on it in a day or two. I think it's alw...

Thanks for the clue. Can't take advantage of that until the first of the month...IF it's still there.

Re: Alternative to Sweet Shannon flute?

I thank everybody for their thoughts and advice. As you can tell I don't have a lot of experience with this particular type of instrument, so I'm just guessing and going on the few samples that I do have and have played

Re: Alternative to Sweet Shannon flute?

IMHO I think the Copley might be the easiest to start, but you should be able to get pretty comfortable with any of the others within only a few weeks, so I don't see the point of having initially easy be such a consideration of purchase. Yeah, I guess I probably didn't express myself very well the...

Re: Alternative to Sweet Shannon flute?

To the digression... I have a Shannon, an M&E, and a Tipple. To my ear, the Shannon is purer than the others. The M&E goes more easily to the dark Reedy sound. The Tipple is loud and crisp. None is,to me, easier. The embrouchure is very different on each. The Tipple having the smallest. Per...

Re: Alternative to Sweet Shannon flute?

Let me diverged here a little bit and ask another question. Are these purpose-built ploy flutes easier to blow than the repurposed PVC flutes, say even from somebody who's really good at it like Doug Tipple? I have one from another guy, who also seems to know what he's doing, that I'm having a hell ...
