Re: Cleaning a light wood flute
Thanks for the replies - yes, it's an Australian wood, the maker is Terry McGee. It's an unlined head joint. I have used almond oil on it as well. I got it used, so I don't know about what the maker might have done to it.

Cleaning a light wood flute
I have a flute made from saffron heart. It has become discolored (dark colored) inside the head joint. Is there a way to clean this without harming the wood?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Music for a wedding
Thanks for the suggestions. I thought of O'Carolan, but I could only think of the ones in 3/4 time - not really good for a processional. Madame Maxwell isn't 3/4. Who wouldn't want Mad Max for their wedding?

Music for a wedding
I have been booked to play a wedding in March. The couple do not have any particular tunes in mind for the processional & recessional - so I was wondering if anyone has ideas on tunes that will work. They mentioned an air they like (Taimse im Chodladh) but that doesn't seem like a good choice to...

I also recommend this CD - I just put it in the rotation to listen at work - wonderful playing! Hope your playing troubles are all gone now, Tom!

Re: Skype Lessons from Belfast Piper Eamonn Dillon
Cathy, you are spot on! I remember the first tionol I attended as a brand new piper, where I was lucky to even know how to hold my practice set - Eamonn was very patient, explained things well, and played our beginners jig over and over and over and over...as many times as it took for us to learn it...

Re: Your Paddy Gras Piping stories
Saturday was a nice quiet gig in a library - they appreciated the pipes, whistles, and flute. They even asked intelligent questions about the pipes. Sunday was the huge beer soaked tent festival - no pipes, which was a good thing. I spent 4 hours unable to hear what I was playing thru the monitors de...

Boston Sessions
I will be in Boston June 1-5. I know there are many sessions in that city, so I was hoping to find some close to the Hynes Convention Center/Sheraton Boston where I will be staying. Any recommended sessions (even if they are not close to where I will be)? Thanks!

Re: What do you play in addition to flute?
Besides Irish flute, I play whistle and uilleann pipes. For early music: recorder, crumhorn, shawm and flute. For other music: saxophone (my major in college), clarinet, flute and oboe (though the oboe playing is a bit rusty these days).
I think I must have ADD..

Re: Reels in B-flat
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I know it's a lousy flute key... In answer to "why B-flat" - the singer in our band wanted a B-flat reel to follow her song in B-flat. I figured F would be easier to find, but I thought I would see what might be out there. I didn't think there would ...

Reels in B-flat
I know there are probably a lot of reels out there in B-flat - I am looking for something that is fairly standard (or common), where I might be able to find a recording of it. Does anyone know of any tunes like this?
Thanks...

Re: Blackie O'Connel
I was not at the Sat eve Furlong's session - I was at the Shamrock that night. The session started small (Mike Rafferty, Billy McComiskey, Felix Dolan), and grew from there. One of the highlights was Benedict's 2 slow airs - they brought tears to some listeners. Both Benedict and Debbie Quigley were...
