Re: Ebay Items
I would say it's a Matt Kiernan chanter but The top is probably by another maker. I would say it's a Matt Kiernan chanter but The top is probably by another maker. Aye. The blocks and turning are a total giveaway - unless it's the mystery maker who copied the Kiernan style, loads of whose chanters ...

Re: 1946 film footage of a (Belfast-area?) piper
Yes, it's curious that the description in the list of O'Mealy pipes places Maxwell's set as a C sharp, whereas in the 'Paddy Maxwell' article the drones are described as '3 Cs and a G' by Wilbert Garvin. Piched slightly sharp of C perhaps? As I listen again though there is something kinda strange go...

Re: 1946 film footage of a (Belfast-area?) piper
http://seanreidsociety.org/SRSJ3/3.16/Paddy%20Maxwell.pdf OK there's a picture of Maxwell here for comparison. I'm pretty convinced it's him in the film A edited to add - ALSO notice the air on the pipes is in C sharp and uses the extra reg notes not visible on the set we see. But the hornpipe is pl...

Re: 1946 film footage of a (Belfast-area?) piper
It could be O'Meally in old age. I tried to compare photos but the seanreidsociety.com is acting a bit strange. Will have to go to the CD rom later. This is supposedly 2 years before the Devil's Rock was filmed. Looking at RL in the Devil's Rock, I can't quite see that this is he - although those b...

Looks like an O'Mealy chanter he's using though, oddly enough, maybe the whole set?

Re: Ebay Items
7mm would be an enormous throat yeah. I think it's more likely 7mm is the size of the top of the reed seat ie the seller has just measured the hole at the 2 ends.dunnp wrote:Is 7mm the outside or inside diameter?
Is that not a huge throat/ reed seat?

Re: Ebay Items
Hmm I wonder who the maker was of those chanters?
Strong Kiernan influence there - on the outside at least!

Is yours the viola or fiddle case, Ben?
Looks bigger (and I guess heavier) than mine.

Re: Uilleann Pipe travel case Tonareli
I have the Tonareli case in black for my Northumbrian pipes, it was around £100-120 on Amazon a couple of years ago. I think there's a much lighter, but far more expensive carbon version. Not much to rip out, some of the insides are only velcro-ed in to start with. I've been pretty happy with it. Th...

In reference to the posts about Kim And Steve Bagpipes Here is the original video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8roSLvzf6L8 here is it used as an advertisement on their SoundCloud soundcloud.com/steve-widdicombe-797164513/northumbrian-smallpipes-sound-sample-1 This really frustrates me because I ...
Hi, Is the drone set reeded and, if so, how is it playing? Do you know what type of metalwork and wood it is made from? Any word of what became of the original chanter? Thank you.
Going out on a limb I'd guess greenheart for the timber, which true enough it seems Rowsome used someti...

Re: Ebay Items
I agree the chanter looks a bit better in the photos. But the action of using someone else's recording as your audio sample, aside from being plain dishonest, suggests that either 1. The chanter for sale doesn't sound very good/work very well, or 2. The guys making/selling them don't know how to pla...

Re: Tenor Drone
Hi If the drone gets sharper under pressure, shorten the tongue. If it gets flatter, lengthen it. Do this by moving the bridles up or down. It's possible to get them really pretty resilient to changes in pressure in terms of pitch this way. Next of course you may find that they don't tune to the cor...
