Re: What is a Rowsome Style Chanter

[quote Is there any clips on youtube that you could link us to that you would consider a good example of the Rowsome tone. RORY[/quote] Hi Rory, there must be a load on Youtube, i think the sound of Benedict's chanter is a great example, or O'Flynn or Maloney. Of course not all Rowsome chanters soun...

Re: What is a Rowsome Style Chanter

I guess that your maker therefore feels his new design to be very close to an original Rowsome chanter in terms of design and also sound. In my opinion that can only be a good thing!!! For many people, myself included, a good Rowsome chanter is really the Holy Grail of concert pitch pipes in terms o...

Re: What is a Rowsome Style Chanter

Rory has a good point although i suppose there must be a handful of makers who adopted a Taylor-based pattern instead. And i'm sure some makers would say they have come up with a new design without reference to a historical design. All that being said i think the term 'Rowsome-style' is a bit vague....

Re: Does anybody know that tune

It's The Queen of the Rushes.

I always get it jumbled up with Coppers and Brass - surely they're versions of the same tune?

Re: Reedmaking Question: Wobbly F#/G

Hi I get this sometimes - where with insufficient pressure the f and g play sharper, and then sink to the correct pitch with more air. If it's like this then you can - back D situation dependant of course - just weaken the reed a little bit by scraping - for example you could scrape the edges a bit....

Re: Any ideas ?

The chanter on the set for sale looks very like this chanter which i reeded up last year. No-one knew who'd made that either, but after some discussion on fb the general consensus seemed to be probably Matt Kiernan, although Leon Rowsome was also a suggestion at that time, not least that the bellows...

Re: Froment B set on ebay

Interesting question - how many sets did he make? Dave Williams told me he worked on the basis of 10 full sets per year (or equivalent in half sets etc). I can't imagine Froment worked much faster than Dave? How long was he a professional maker? 25-30 years? Just guestimating - 250 sets? How many Ro...

Re: High a roll

Myself i generally have the F or G fingers open and that seems to help. But still some setups often loose the octave when you cut with the csharp, in which case cutting with the B instead can be a safer option?

Any use?

Re: Pictures of Your Pipes

I have the same bellows but in black.

I hadn't realised that my previous bellows were so inefficient/pants until i got these.

They really are A1.
