Domhnall, Just be sure to play it before you commit to it. You may not know what you're looking for, but someone may have already said, for Irish music you want ring and sustain, not attack that falls off quickly (which is what I have not liked about the Eastmans I've played, though they appeared to...
HA! I don't know about that! Sure, you're not off in flat keys, but there are enough accidentals and 4th finger notes to give you plenty to think about. If a player already plays ma...

[I still don't understand why they don't make a wide-necked 3xx model. It would be an instant classic, no questions. I don't buy J. Hall's argument that "the retooling costs would be prohibitive." I thought the 660/12 was playable, but the balance was SG-like. (Neck heavy). The 12-saddle ...

Heh! I had a 330/12 for a while (Mapleglo). So it had that narrow neck and wouldn't stay in tune worth a flip-- but oh, that sound! And what Rickenbacker says about the 6 way bridge staying in tune with their strings? Nah, not even close. I'd have needed to have the nut filed to be able to use Pyram...

Thanks Rob! My home PC died a while back so all I have to check in on is an old laptop with a crappy sound card. Haven't bought a new PC yet because all my money's going to Ireland-- and a new truck I just had to buy because my old truck also died in July! So, as soon as I get back a new PC will be ...

I've been a Fiddle Owner for years, but just starting taking Suzuki lessons this summer. Now, I freely admit I suck and probably will for a while, and may never be able to play Irish music at a standard I'd be happy with, but it's a lot of fun. If you can find a teacher who is willing to treat adult...

Taking the National to Ireland

I'm not sure how it's all going to work out with the airline situation changing by the day, but hopefully I'll be able to take the mandolins to Ireland without having to check them on the return trip. May just ship them back if push comes to shove. Even though I won't be competing with the National,...

Ha! Yeah that Rigel is probably the ticket! To be honest, I did OK but I've played better. Having never done that before I didn't fully appreciate the nerves factor. I saw some good players choke during the weekend. My friends who went with me won 2nd in solo flute and solo uillean pipes respectivel...

Fleadh Cheoil na h'Eireann

Well, I'm going to The Show, can't believe it. Decided to use the National mando, Lord that thing is a cannon! I was given some friendly advice though by the judge that the National would likely be questioned in Letterkenny and it might be a good idea to play what everybody else is playing at the fl...

Because it's the instrument of passion! Seriously, singing love songs with a guitar, you're at the sitting-politely-at-opposite-ends-of-the-sofa-stealing-glances-at-each-other stage. The accordion is about getting it ON. God have mercy, that is about the most righteous thing I've ever read. Rick

what's a pom?? A disparaging term for a British citizen. So nowadays its like calling a US person a 'Yank'. I've always been mildly amused at being referred to as a "Yank". You don't hear the term "Yankee" in the Southern US as much as you once did (prolly because there are so *...
Dang, y'all think too much.

On the other hand, maybe I should have written stuff down...
