Nigel,

I have a TrueType font for whistle tablature that I created. PM me if you are interested.

Re: Hello C&F!

Laurentum,

Welcome!

One of my favorite whistles is still an old Clarke, played so much that the diamonds wore off, leaving only the black paint.

Thanks for coming in out of the shadows.

I haven't played his low D, but I have Milligan soprano C and D. Both excellent whistles!

Whistle music with tablature, music notation, and playback

I wanted to let everyone know that David Bruce at 8notes.com has started re-working and posting most of my old whistle sheet music on his website. https://www.8notes.com/tin_whistle/all/ (The first three tunes, dated 2010, don't have tablature.) Particularly for new learners, I think this provides a...

Re: Getting better tone, and other newbie questions

I have found that for upper register, if I think about the air moving faster, rather than blowing harder, things seem to work better. There's probably some real technical something that explains this. Noodling around right now, I observe that in the upper register, I do tighten my embochure a bit - ...

Re: Hello all, I'm new here and would love to get your advice!

Of the nicer whistles I have, the one from ethnicwinds is probably the easier to play. Nick has several lines, some more expensive, some less so. I thoroughly love the Milligans that I have, one in C and one in D, but they'd be tough for a beginner to learn the upper octave on. It's like they can se...

Non-tunable may not be in tune, but most are close enough.

A couple of questions come to mind: What is your budget? Are you wanting to play (eventually) with others, or just for your own enjoyment? What kind of music do you enjoy listening to and want to play?

Re: Hello all, I'm new here and would love to get your advice!

My first whistle was a Clare D brought to me as a souvenir from my father-in-law's trip to Ireland in 1987. I played it for a long time before I started experimenting with different whistles, and did find that I liked other whistles better. I had not played the old Clare for many years, having gradu...

Whistle and Squeak website moved to a new home

I have moved my website, Whistle and Squeak, to a new home at: http://praisewhistlers.org/whistleandsqueak/Home.html. I hadn't updated with new music for a couple of years, and had a horrendous backlog of requests to arrange tunes, so I decided to move the material into more of an archival site to k...

Re: Original Clarke penny whistle

I've found with the several Clarke originals that I've owned, that the windway is too tall for the whistle to respond the way that I want it to. I carefully push the top of the windway down toward the wooden plug, just a bit at a time, until I like the sound and playability. If you are brand-new to ...

Re: Another key check please....

I had a Gen Eb (nickel) that I was only modestly happy with, until I put a Hoover Whitecap on it. Now it has an amazingly full, sweet tone.
