Re: Using a Dremel for making thumbholes?
If you use a dremel or drill find some material that is the same as the whistle to practice on. For cleaning small holes I like to use small diamond files. Diamond files will cut in either direction. Great for removing wood fibers from the bottom of a wood hole that sometimes leaves fibers hanging i...

What I also need to do, is track down some music to play. Is there an online resource for downloadable music, that's either organised, or sortable, by key?

Re: Side blown low whistle
Mr Gumby’s picture looks some fifes I have seen with what they call a cheater mouthpiece. That was my impression from the photo. I've seen - and heard - similar metal-bodied instruments in person, and there wasn't a true whistle-type fipple arrangement as we usually understand it, but the cheater m...

Re: Side blown low whistle
I assume you could just make a mouthpiece on a ring and and slide it over a hole in the top of a whistle tube. But what do I know! I suspect I'm not the only person who finds holding a low whistle comfortably challenging. I should just try those susato thumb rest thingies. Works for clarinet player...

There is a whistle maker in Maine “The Whistlesmith” that I have seen a side blown whistle. I have never seen his whistles or heard one.

Might a whistle be closer to a pipe organ than a piano?

Re: UNDERCUT Whistle Blade - seen any good examples?
Ever seen a whistle with an undercut blade? or if there are examples of undercut blades on high whistles or low whistles! I searched "Undercut" and found lots of use of the word in the Flute Forum, mostly about key holes, nothing about whistle blades. Thanks for any thoughts on this at al...

Re: FS: Extremely Rare E-Flat Sindt Whistle - Excellent
My Eb Sindt came with a silver tone tube. I wanted to find out if silver sounded different than brass. I fit a brass Generation Eb tone tube to the Sindt. Also added a 1/2'' sleeve to a Generation F tone tube. And have several brass D tone tubes that fit. https://www.snapagogo.com/images/2019/05/23/...

Re: Mountain Made Low D
Has anyone played any of the Mountain Made Whistles? The low d is supposedly playable with Fingertips... whistlesmith.com I have not played one. I do not think there is a low D to be played by fingertips. Unless it is off pitch and the buyer accepts off pitch. Or the very seldom person with long do...
