Wow!

I intend to have a go with it. It will take me some time though. Don't be holding your breath. There's a lot there to look at.

Re: Whistle Brands That Have Changed in Quality Over Time

Interesting topic, Sirchronique. I do think that things are subject to change over time generally. Doesn't matter whether we talk about mass produced whistles or of boutique whistles. Why things change? Who knows? I talk to some smaller volume makers and they feel they make changes to better their p...

Re: Looking for my next flute

o clarify, I got the Tipple flutes and have been playing them for about 6 or 7 years now, including going with more of a piper grip. Unfortunately despite my best efforts the hand cramping refuses to stop, despite encountering no similar issues with concert flutes. Originally was using an in-line t...

Re: Looking for my next flute

Picked up a few Doug Tipple flutes, but unfortunately the holes are far too large and the bore too big for me to comfortably play. Just wondering if by your saying "Picked up a few Doug Tipple flutes" means that your tried them on for size briefly or that you bought, owned and worked a wh...

Maybe? Or possibly a solution looking for a problem which did not exist.

Thanks for passing along the earworm, benhall.1!

Re: Antique Whistle Advice Sought

Thanks for the new pictures. Yes, the blade is damaged. It needs attention. And it also appears that the plug has shrunk some judging from the space around the edges at the back of the beak. We can't see how things line up at the windway exit though. A proper repair would be to fit a new plug, re-bu...

Re: Antique Whistle Advice Sought

Think I would try a reversible tweak with a laminate on the blade with sticky tac. Yes, I'm with Tommy. I think that'd be worth a shot. And it is a doable DIY project, and entirely reversible. If you do not know what that is I can try to describe it. It is not unlike installing a fake fingernail ov...

Re: Antique Whistle Advice Sought

I've had it re-padded and cleaned up and plays quite nicely in the low register. High register more difficult, possibly due to the fipple which was damaged when I got it. Is this the likely reason for the high register problems and might the fipple be repairable on an old ebonite instrument? I gues...

Re: Sourcing Tubing for Whistle and Whistle Body Construction

I'd like to find some places online that carry a wide assortment of tubing to choose from, which others have had good luck with, especially for soprano D, C#, and C whistles. The brass tubing that many of us use for high whistles is provided/distributed by K&S Precision Metals. It comes in a se...

Re: Burke nomenclature? Ebay whistle

I took the bag full of Burkes out for a few carols and other Christmas tunes with friends last night. A lot of keys came into play. So thinking about this thread I took note of the model designations on each whistle I pulled from the bag. Of the thirteen Burke aluminum whistles I had with me only on...

Re: Good low D whistle for beginner?

I finally got my Low D in September. Thanks for updating us. It is rare that we hear about how things went with our suggestions. I think you've made a good choice to start with. I have played penny whistles before, and at first I was shocked at how much apart the fingers are, and how difficult it i...

Re: General care taking of Aluminium whistles

Yeah, just play them. Keep them clean and lubricated and everything should work out. Other than that, care will vary from maker to maker depending on how the material is finished (anodized, coated or not) , whether there is a mix of brass/aluminum at the joints, o-rings, etc., etc., etc.. So follow ...

Re: Burke nomenclature? Ebay whistle

Maybe you could drop a note to Michael Burke and suggest standard nomenclature for him. I still think it's odd to have the "T". While it would seem logical to assume that the letters "SB" indicate "session bore" that's apparently not the case. DBSBT, as Kevin noted, ind...

Re: Burke nomenclature? Ebay whistle

I've never owned a Burke, or knowingly seen a Burke, that didn't have a delrin mouthpiece. Odd that he would feel the need to put that designation in the code of every metal whistle he's made for years, when he doesn't make them any other way, Kevin has it right. I thought that Joanie Madden sugges...
