Re: Bellows style with no need for seasoning ever

Using a double ply of leather is good for making it airtight, but it can make for stiff, heavy bellows. It's always a trade-off - performance vs. weight. comfort vs. durability. I have a set of Dow bellows and I find them to be very good (minus the 90 degree connector, which is, sometimes quite litt...

Re: Bellows style with no need for seasoning ever

Uilleann pipes bellows usually don’t need seasoning, if you use the right type of leather.

There aren’t many people making just bellows. Jordan McConnell in Manitoba, Canada is the only name that I can think of.

Re: Rogge copy of Ennis' set

The Ennis Coyne was supposedly in pieces when James Ennis bought it in London in 1905 (?). It was rebuilt/restored by John Brogan (and converted for a right-handed set for James Ennis). The conversion would have involved making a new (right-handed) mainstock. I'm not sure how much else of the set is...

Re: Vanishing Bass Regulators

The early sets of union pipes had one or two regulators. Did I hear that bass regulators weren't common until the early 19th century? That would mean that for the first 100 years, 3/4 sets would have been the norm.

Re: Vanishing Bass Regulators

Travel could be a consideration. It's easier to pack a 3/4 set into a carry-on "friendly" case.

I'd add 2 more to your list: Bill Haneman and Jimmy O'Brien-Moran, who is making lovely flat sets.

WTB bag for right-handed practice set

I'm putting together a practice set and I'm looking for a bag (leather or synthetic) with stocks set up for a right-handed piper. Must be in good condition. PM me if you have something to offer.

Re: Chris Langan Weekend, Toronto, March 3 - 5, 2023

A very enjoyable weekend in Toronto. My only regret was that my flight home meant that I had to miss the Piper's Chair and final session. Big thanks to Debbie, Ross, Jared, Colm, Eamonn and all of the volunteers for making it happen. The weather on Friday evening/Saturday morning didn't cooperate bu...

Re: Old flat set in South Dublin auction

Probably a 4th reg. There's a Coyne set with a similar "nub" which held a 4th reg.

Re: Chris Langan Weekend, Toronto, March 3 - 5, 2023

I’m going to bring my D set to the CLW but I’m wondering whether it’s worth it to bring a flat chanter and if so, what pitch. Are there any flat sessions at the CLW?
