Re: Can't read it wrong

Could businesses please spell check their communications, whether email, advertisements, websites, etc.? Today, I received an email from Western Digital regarding their backup hard drives. "Subject: Would you lose all your data if lighting strikes?" (No, although I might have to put on su...

Re: Can't read it wrong

That does it. We have to make homonyms illegal. Nano, I am shocked, shocked I say. How politically incorrect can you get? (Don't answer that. This is a family forum.) Why, even our president is an admitted homophone. While I am a committed heteronym, some of my best friends are homonyms (Smith, Car...

Things are going too far ... http://www.ctvnews.ca/mobile/autos/nissan-shows-leaf-electric-car-revamped-with-more-range-1.3576666 "It promises a travel range of about 400 kilometres or 150 miles before needing another charge." I'll take the metric version, thanks. That article is ambiguou...

Re: Can't read it wrong

Yesterday I had to initial a pre-printed contract with a physician acknowledging that California statue limited liability. I asked whose statue, Robert E. Lee's? I'm almost certain California never had a statue of General Lee. Or if they did, I don't think they do now. California has statutes on th...

Re: Consulting the Electric Hair Clipper Oracle

Out of curiosity, if you don't mind, what guides do you use? I'm thinking about going this route. I like my hair short on the sides but not buzz cut and just long enough on top to comb easily. Your basic 60's businessman look. Do you trim around the ears or just cut the the same length as the sides?

Re: My wife made some whistle racks

They look great! Your wife has a real talent.

But, seriously, only six whistles!?! I'm pretty sure the legal minimum is, like, what, 20? 30? Think of all those starving whistler makers.

I'm afraid that sadly, yes, it does.
Perhaps, but not worth getting yourself in a knot over.
Ooooh, a circle back pun. I love it!

Re: Opening a music store. Any recommendations for instrumen

I had to visit the Urban dictionary to get that one. http://forums.chiffandfipple.com/images/smilies/icon_biggrin_144.gif Now you've made me look. Almost wish I hadn't ... I could have remained blissfully ignorant ... Me too. That's five minutes of my life I can't get back. Does this slavish seekin...

Re: Back to basics: metronome

Well said, Ben. The metronome is a tool to aid learning. One could learn to play a whistle (or any instrument) with no tools at all other than the whistle itself but that would be reinventing the music starting about a million years ago. Recordings, YouTube videos, live music, sessions, formal instr...

Re: Back to basics: metronome

I would be curious to hear an argument against using a metronome to practise... Real Irish musicians don't do that. You shouldn't need one. They distract you from the music. I've never seen the need for one. They make your playing mechanical. There are some others. None make any more sense that the...

Re: Whistle tunes in E and Eb?

It would be interesting to have some simple tunes actually written in E, and also Eb which I'll get to when I feel I can make the right hand stretch more easily. Maybe I don't understand the question. If you want lots of tunes to play on your E whistle, pull out any tune in D or G and finger your E...

HEAR, HEAR! Well said, well said. Too wordy. Rant: It's duct tape, not duck tape! The stuff was originally used to seal the seams in metal air conditioning ducts. Still is, actually. People got sloppy with the pronunciation then a company marketed a "duck tape" as a play on words with a c...
