You do a good thing when going to the shops instead of buying online. If you just want a mandolin to get started with, there are some that are good for low prices, I've had a Washburn A style mandolin that was good for 3000 SEK, the one I have now is F style mandolin, Gold Tone, that I paid 6000 SEK...

Good medium whistles
Hi whistlers! I bought a few Dixon whistles recently, one Dixon trad and one high E, both very good whistles, I'm very satisfied with Dixon. Now I need another couple of whistles, one A and one G. I thought that maybe I would buy another brand, just to broaden my view??? What other whistle brand are...

what kind of microphone?
I'm with a band where I mainly play the mandolin, but I'll also play some whistle. What kind of microphone would you recommend for a whistle? The same as for singing? Some kind of attached whistle? Anything else?

Hi there! Welcome to the fiddle world. I'd say that fiddle isn't more difficult to learn than any other instrument. Every instrument has its own difficulties. It will help that you've played some kind of instrument before so you know what it's supposed to sound like. It can be self-taught, but it wi...

WANTED: bouzouki players
Are there bouzouki players here? I have some questions for you. What tuning do you use for Irish bouzouki? What is the best tuning, in your opinion, to play chords for irish music? Do you think it's best to use chord charts or make up your own chords? I use GDAD or ADAD but some chords are hard to f...

oh, oldtime music is just wonderful!!!!!!!! I discovered it fully this summer (have been listening to it sometimes before) at a jam, and I'm now learning oldtime fiddle. Here are some names that I like, even if I know there are hundreds of great OT bands undiscovered out there!! Bruce Molsky (simply...

What whistle should I play?
I have a bunch of whistles, all of them cheap whistles. I have some Clarkes, two Waltons, and a Generation. They have VERY different sound. The Clarke (one piece) D is very "windy" and it doesn't have as much sound volume as the Walton Little Black D. The Walton has a very clear sound that...

I think it should be possible to get a good swing also with the EC - it depends on how you work with the bellows, I guess. I haven't been playing long at all, only since last October, and nothing at all this spring or summer. I learned the fingerings and then I played the fiddle instead. But now I'v...

English concertina
Anyone else out there who plays English concertina? Just curious. I seem quite alone with it. I love this little instrument and I think it's a lot more handy than anglo or any diatonic squeeze box. I've tried some melodeon but it just seems impossible for me to learn!! Anyway, the EC suits any music...
