Flute recordings - Happy St. Patrick's Day 2024

Welcome back, C&F - we missed you. In celebration of St. Patrick's Day 2024, I've uploaded a few flute audio clips to Youtube, 1 - 3 reels by Desi Wilkinson on Bb flute - accompanied by a few photos I took of Desi on trips to Scotland in the late 1970s / 1980s - ie, when we all had hair. https:/...

10th FluteFling : Edinburgh 19-21 April

Hard to believe that it is 10 years since we started this venture. Since then, we have branched out to include additional events in Aberdeen, extended our original scope to include whistles, and produced "The FluteFling Collection" tunebook - [ fewer than 20 left out of the initial run of ...

Reminded of this discussion after seeing this video posted on Youtube one hour ago. Seems to confirm my observation.

Mary Bergin in Aberdeen next week...

... and I am to have the pleasure of conducting a public interview / conversation with her. I've got a good idea which topics I'm going to ask her about, but would welcome any suggestions in case there's anything I've not considered. Or if anyone has a specific question they might like an answer to,...

Here's Sara, - who presented a thesis on Alex's music to the Elphinstone Institute a few years back - talking about Alex and the coming-soon weekend : https://youtu.be/igUWDP99BXU?si=NRGSy0p88jr50rlh Also, if anyone is coming to Aberdeen for the weekend, several of the ticketed events, including Mar...

Re: Name that flute player

That would be right, Mr.G. His name is in the 1976 programme as winner of both flute AND whistle in the 11 - 14 age group from the previous year, ie 1975. He won the 14 - 16 flute competition in 1976, and as I recall, got a standing ovation for his performance, the only time I've ever seen that in a...

Name that flute player

Here's a bit of fun. I've been posting on Youtube a few recordings I made at the All-Ireland Fleadh in Buncrana, Co. Donegal in 1976, and came across this video, from a year earlier, 1975 : There's a young flute player playing "The Bucks Of Oranmore" at 3m 13 secs. I'm fairly certain I kno...
