Re: The FluteFling Collection - new tunebook
Peter Saunders filmed quite a lot of the performance section of the launch and has posted the first clip on his Youtube channel - see link below. The three of us play the Scottish 9/8 jig "The Favourite Dram" together - I realised when I saw it that we had never played the tune together in...

Re: The FluteFling Collection - new tunebook
All books purchased since we went online have now been posted, apart from the 3 which came in since I went to the Post Office a few hours ago. They will be posted tomorrow. I will pass your suggestion on for discussion, Kevin.

Re: The FluteFling Collection - new tunebook
Online sales are now up and working - sales have been coming in, including from Australia, USA, Spain, Netherlands and most pleasingly, several from Ireland. At the moment, I'm the person no-one wants to get behind in the queue at the local Post office. If anyone here has ordered a book, I'll be up ...

Re: The youth that belonged to Miltown
Timely reminders there that Coronavirus hasn't gone away. That's an interesting photo MrG. I see Spike Callaghan there with Aoife Granville, but have they all given up the drink ? Not good news at all for the pub owner. Referring to the Darach de Brun tune recording offer on the other whistle thread...

Re: The youth that belonged to Miltown
Thanks for that, Mr G. Would you know whether or not it is on sale at the NPU shop which usually pops up in Miltown ? Some friends of mine are over, and I might ask them to get me a few copies. Ta. - Sorry I'm not there to pick them up myself. Hope the week is going well. Kenny

The FluteFling Collection - new tunebook
Myself and two other flute players, Sharon Creasey from Dumbarton and Gordon Turnbull from Edinburgh have been organising "FluteFling" weekends of classes, talks and sessions in both Edinburgh and Aberdeen since 2014. Coronavirus put the kibosh on any teaching in person for the past 2 year...

Re: 3 reels from Darach de Brun RIP
Sorry, but i've removed this from Youtube. There were too many glitches in the recording / upload - didn't do the music justice.

3 reels from Darach de Brun RIP
Posted on Youtube [ audio only ] in memory of Dublin whistle player Darach de Brun, who departed from us 10 years ago this day, 24/06/2022. Darach was a member of a band called "Drantan" and he recorded these 3 reels of his as a whistle / flute duet with Gerard Byrne. The titles are "...

Re: Styles of Playing
I don't think there are many, if any, living whistle players in Ireland who have not been affected directly or indirectly [ even without knowing it ] by Mary Bergin's "Feadog Stain" recording. It was a real landmark in Irish music, one of the most influential recordings ever. An object exa...

Re: Feadoga Stain Whistles
The whole Eb business is an interesting phenomenon. Many recordings in the 1980s in particular, seemed to be made with instruments pitched to Eb. I don't think it is so common these days, in fact you find many recordings going the other way, to a lower pitch of C, Bb or even B. Again in the 1980s, s...

Re: Help with tune
You're welcome. Coincidentally, I've just been looking at a CD from the German Folk tours of the 1970s. The song was recorded by the Furey Brothers, complete with uilleann pipes. I'll post it on Youtube if you like.

Re: What is ”the Northern flute thing”?
"Otherwise you might as well just play a low D whistle where you can't use breath pulse for rhythm".
I may be missing something obvious, but why not ? Can you explain that statement, please ?
