It is also important to realize that when someone says Blackwood is more dense or stable than Rosewood they are talking about very very slight differences. There is likely enough variance in trees of the same species that it is possible to occasionally end up with a piece of rosewood that is denser ...

A year or so ago I asked Flute Maker Terry McGee the same question. He referred me to a very interesting scientific study. I tried to find my copy of the article without success. I'm sure Terry would be happy to give you his opinion and the reference to the article. I have played flutes in Blackwood...

I have owned both a Casey Burns keyless in Mopane and a Copley in Blackwood. This particular Burns is a great flute. Easy to play, lowish air requirement, great round full reedy tone, and not too bad a finger stretch at all. And it is a really good looking flute. The Copley is...well, a Copley. An e...

Blackhawk,

Are you using a piper grip? Your hands don't have to be 90 degrees to the whistle. In fact, a slight angle is commonly used with the piper grip. It is much more comfortable and not hard to get used to.

The Copeland Low D is an amazing low whistle, isn't it?

Matt, I have had a Casey Burns Mopane for a few years now. I've recently sent the Burns off to a friend while I play a new (used) Copley. The Casey Burns is a wonderful flute. It is learner friendly with a wonderful tone and very managable finger spacing-mine was not a "small hands" model....

I've been bounced several times when trying to email David Copley with questions. I've used the email address on his web site. Any ideas? I guess I could call.

Amar,

Laurence Nugent has two wonderful CDs with Low whistle tracks, and flute tracks, in the mix. Windy Gap and Two for Two are both top of my list.

Thanks, Jim. I haven't had a need for the thumb rest, but I'll keep that in mind.

Man, what a whistle!

I've now spent a few days with my new Copeland Low D and I just can't say enough about it. (My experience with Low d whistles is limited to Cheiftain, Burke, Overton, and Susato.) This Copeland Low D plays like a dream, top to bottom. The tone is full, round, reedy, and smoooooth. I am amazed everyt...

I know this was the topic of a recent post, but, I wanted to ask a few quick questions. Is it possible to email music recorded on the Mini Disc player using the USB cable? Is it possible to record slowed music from my PC to a Mini Disc player? What type of microphone would you use with a Mini Disc p...

Aaron,

You might consider an Olwell bamboo. They are great flutes, extremely well made, at a very good price. I think you can buy one in the key of d for less than $100.00.
