Re: Any recording tricks for flutes and other wind instrumen

Hi There

I personally use an original AKG C1000s for flute and whistle but have also used a Shure Beta 58A

Depending on your room circumstances it also might be worth setting up a noise gate

Re: Tonguing technique

Hi There

It may be worth considering trying Luh as opposed to tuh, L softens the attack more than tuh or kuh or duh

lol, just another kitchen session, and nowt wrong with that :) And so it would appear with the same mentality as those on the `whistlethis` site 1. Arbo extends a warm and open invitation to all members here at chiff to join in with this venture 2. Diabhidh, innocently thinking that's a great idea ...

Re: Improving Flute Players

Some of us have started up a new group on Face Book called Improving Flute Players. It was created with the intention of being a place where players can post videos of themselves and receive feedback from others. We are not professionals, nor do we have the honed skills of a seasoned critic, but we...

Re: Tongue or not to tongue, that is the question.

Highland - Piper wrote: Cathal McConnells homespun tapes discuss tonguing. He says that some whistlers do a lot of it and others not at all. He explains both normal tonguing and double tonguing, and leaves it to the student to listen to lots of music and tongue when they feel it's appropriate. I've ...

Re: Death of a website (WhistleThis)

Hi Just read this thread, I remember this period well... My View FWIW I advocated then, several times and would still advocate that the Clips & Snips was an ideal opportunity to post Clips The original idea was to merely share clips and people could take from it what they liked..they weren't put...

Re: Tongue or not to tongue, that is the question.

Hi Stevie J ; You are kidding with your response right!.. As your post states you `prefer to swing the other way and come out batting for the other team` ie not to tongue at all! As Highland-Piper highlighted and I'm sure there are others as well, he / she uses tonguing for clarity and to em...

Re: Tongue or not to tongue, that is the question.

Hi Just a suggestion to get you started! Exercise: Try tonguing the first note of every bar, then every second bar, then every fourth bar, then possibly try 8 bars A 32 bar reel would be set out as follows 1st Part - 8 Bars 2nd Part - 8 Bars = 16 bars Repeat the pattern above Total 32 Bars You will ...

Re: 10 Years, ladies and gentlemen?

God help anyone who wants to take up the flute in their retirement at 60/65! a bit risky if you ask me, worth considering they might not actually live to collect their dream instrument! If your older then perhaps your only choice is to buy second hand, that is, if you want those particular instrumen...

Re: Am I just 'traditionally style-less?'

Hi there Arbo, many musicians go through periods of being `insecure`, which can be frustrating and depressing Thats probably the bigger challenge for you to overcome, than your playing style at the moment going by your posts in this thread You have put some music up for listening, some will enjoy it...

Re: Britain's Got Talent - Susan Boyle

The appalled looks could easily have been from another act, which was actually talentless and deserving of eye rollary. Speaking of which, is the production always this bad for these shows? I want to see and hear the act, not the audience. And who are the prats yelling backstage? Actually, I'm with...
