I stared at this in confusion for about a minute until I realized you meant turning the whistle's head upside down, not the human's!

Re: Kenny's flute recordings

The original title of this tune is still a mystery to me, 37 years after the recording was made. One of the best flute tunes I ever heard - refer to video caption. I would love to hear a clean recording of this tune -- all the noise on this makes my ear interpret it as just random flute-y sounds in...

Re: what key whistle is this guy using?

I can't play along at the moment to figure it out, but if it really is in Eb minor he could be playing it on a low Db whistle, which would have Eb minor just like a normal D whistle has E minor. One of the videos on the Whistles Workshop page is Colleen Shanks playing a Whistles Workshop high C# whi...

Re: Looking for a tune recommendation

There are quite a few tunes that go above high B - Sean sa Cheo in A, for instance - but I don't know any that go below low G, because that's the lowest note on fiddles. If I were you, I'd be inclined to play a tune, a time or two, down an octave. Was coming here to say just this. I recommend findi...

Re: Is Freeman okay?

I thought for Jerry "available again" meant he had figured out a way to make that "model" whistle again using the mass-produced whistles available to him to work with.

Hi, can someone help me out with the last tuen of the set? Starts around 2:30 after the New Policeman. In the video description the tune is called Flowers of Redhill, but that doesn't sound right to me. Thanks for you help :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqWMn6RnWCA Ah, they don't come easier th...

Re: Water Weasel confirmation

Guess I'm a little late to the party here, but I can absolutely confirm that Glenn sometimes used the the brown stuff as a plug. It's on my low G and low F Water Weasels, and I think I had a C that used it as well. (Oh, on my one Thin Weasel as well.) My impression (though I don't know if this is ju...

According to an interview with her, no:
My mum grew up in Killarney in Co. Kerry and learnt to play the Tin Whistle and Button Accordian with renowned teachers Nicky and Anne McAuliffe (of no relation to me!!!).

Baroque contrabassoon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLYRfHjZIy8 Our band's oboe player was just mentioned this instrument to me in rehearsal on Thursday! Can't believe I never heard of it before and then this timely video comes along right after I hear of it. Speaking of exotic instruments, it c...

Re: Kenny's flute recordings

Oooo, thanks! It's funny, I remember hearing 20 years ago that the third part of "Over the Moor to Maggie" was a late addition. But until fairly recently I don't remember ever actually hearing anyone who wasn't an American Old Time fiddler play it with just two parts. I think this is the t...

Re: Is this an old tune or a new tune?

Keenan lived in Newfoundland for a while and learned the tune from Gerry. I believe Gerry even plays on Keenan's album recording of it.

Edited to add: If we take the liner notes literally, on Keenan's recording he's playing the low whistle and Gerry is playing the high whistle.

Re: Is this an old tune or a new tune?

I don't know anything about about Taylor Hill, but Kildevil is a composition of Newfoundland flute/whistle player Gerry Strong (ghstrong here).
