Re: New book from Grey Larsen

A message to newbies, neophytes and intermediate whistlers. This book/cd package is the most important thing to happen to the whistle tooting community since Grey's definitive "Essential" guide was released over 10 years ago. What gives over here in the Dale Wisely community? This thread s...

Re: New whistle: stepping up from Dixon Trad

Hiya fellow tooters, I've been lurking mainly & posting sparsly to this board over the years. I must say that I'm impressed by the comments made here. After nearly seven years of trying new "expensive" aka "high end" whistles, I still find myself reaching for my Freeman whist...

Re: What recordings do you like to play along to?

Hi Fabien Two CD's come to mind that I particullary enjoy playing along with. "Music From Matt Molloy's Pub" and "Across the Pond" (with Kevin Griffin et al.). I'd say this is mainly because many of the tunes found on these recordings are common session tunes or tunes that get a ...

Re: Most Popular session Whistle in Ireland

I, like fearfaoin, couldn't help but notice a lot of whistlers tooting Susato's as well. Susato's do get a bad rap on this board for being "recorder like" in tone and "difficult to control in the upper register" and "Loud" but they sound quite lovely in the hands of cap...

Re: A bit more work ....

Terry Maybe it's just a typo and Mr Oputa meant 50 or 500 flutes. Perhaps you can recruit Copely, Tipple, Hammy and a few other experienced flute makers to help! In any case I am offering my services. You'll definitely need a Chef to feed you and your new staff. I'd be glad to take a leave of absenc...

Re: Jerry Freeman whistles.

I suppose I am preaching to the choir here but here goes anyway... I've been using Freeman Tweaked whistles for going on six years now. I keep one in the upstars bathroom, one next to the computer, one in my office, one in my car and one in the dining room. My favorite is still the Gen D which I hav...

Re: Grey Larsen's Contribution

Peter Laban I hosted a CCE sponsored workshop with Grey a few years back. I am an American and like many I used Grey's material to help guide me through the “newcomer” years. I get that his “flute” style is not what some of us, myself included, aspire towards. I get that the guide is academic and se...

Re: Monogamy

Very nice post squidgirl. I assert that whether one is content with one trusty, predictable whistle or whether one lusts after many, at the end of the day your only gonna sound as good as you the player are. Although I do think there are merits to this “monogamy” idea and as MTGuru has pointed out i...

I recieved my Blakbird last from the venerable Jerry Freeman last week. I wanted to spend a little time getting to know it before I posted any feedback. The many postings about this whistle on C&F already, pretty much tell the whole story and I have very little to add actually except to say that...

Copeland gets my vote

OK...so I havn't played 'em all but I've played a bunch and the Copland to me is the sweetest of all. How did this not get listed in the the poll? If I really got my wish someone would insist on giving me a Copleland Low D that turned out to be the one that was stolen from Seamus Egan. Of course it ...

Clogging problems

One of the things I like about the whistles Jerry tweaks whistles is the fact that relatively speaking the clogging issues are minemal, I'm suprised to hear this is a problem for some. The JF Generation tweaked whistles that I have pretty much never clog no matter how much I slobber into them. At wo...

Freeman Tweaked D

Hello MTGuru and Jerry Freeman Thanks for the kind replies. MTGuru The saga to replace my beloved Freeman Tweaked Gen D unfolded over several week period about a year or so ago. At that time I was only an occasional visitor to C&F and had no idea how to contact Jerry. As far as I knew he didn't/...

High Hopes for this whistle

I used to have a Freeman Tweaked Generation D brass that was absolutely the BOMB. It was hands down my favorite whistle. I liked it better than my Sindt or or Burke or even my Overton...any of 'em. (and like most on this site from what I gather I have struggled with whoa) It was freaking awesome and...

Mary Bergin gets my vote

In terms of who has directly influenced my style and approch the most it's Mary Bergin hand's down. Like Mary, stylistically I tend use a lot of rolls when I play and I especially favor short rolls over long rolls in a lot of instances. I also tend to favor her subtle tounging style. I aslo follow M...

Yes I figured as much, I aslo figured that if someone identify's it as a good flute it will auction for a "good flute" price. I'm just curious and figured someone here could identfy it.
