Re: Knoxville, Gatlinburg, Townsend TN Pipers?

Yep, saw it, although it wasn't posted yet back in May when I posted initially. So far I've contacted Matt McNeely, Rick Hall and Skip Cleavinger - all of who are unavailable. I also have a message out to Gary White, but he's not responded.

I'm open to other suggestions. :boggle:

Knoxville, Gatlinburg, Townsend TN Pipers?

Hi Y'all, My apologies if this is in the wrong forum - mods please move to the appropriate one if needed. I'm getting married on June 22nd in Townsend, TN at a place called the Richmont Inn. I've been trying to find an uilleann piper to play at the wedding (it's going to be a small "destination...

The F is sold, thanks!

The D is still looking for a good home. :)

I'll probably give it another week here, then try eBay. :pint:

eBay: Keyless Copley D Flute 11/23 SOLD

I'm selling my flutes. I just don't have time to play these days, and when I do, about 95% of the time I pick up a low F whistle. So, as I'm currently in a position where some extra money would be really handy, I'd like to sell them to a good home where they'll get some play time. The first is a Bla...

Clip of me trying out the new Copley Delrin F:

For Sake of Old Decency

Kieran O'Hare gave us the tune when he and Liz stopped by the Riley School when they played a gig here in Cincinnati.

Re: Bonaparte Crossing the Rhine.

There's a great version of the tune on John Skelton & Kieran O'Hare's CD "Double Barrelled". That's where I learned it, anyway. :)

Re: Next step?

I'd suggest Cathal McConnell's tutorial from Homespun. It's a pretty good place to start, IMO. ETA: In addition to that, I'd check out some of the various recordings listed in the stickied thread and I'd also look around to see if there's a session in your area and check that out too. There may be s...

Re: Who makes the best sounding Bb?

B flat is one of my very favorite keys of whistle. I have a Burke and a Reyburn as well as a couple Generations. For the money, the Generations whistles are really quite good. Of the three, I like the way the Generation plays the best actually - as far as backpressure goes anyway. I like the tone of...

Re: What slow tune would you recommend I learn next?

I've grown quite fond of Anne Maguire's Silver Wedding. It's on John McCusker's CD "Yella Hoose".

It's the first tune in this set on youtube.

Re: Well known players who can't read music

There are plenty. I don't think Kevin (Crawford) has a background in music notation and theory for example. Correct me if I'm wrong Kevin. That's what Kevin told us at Swannanoa when I was there a couple years back. Any notation he uses for tunes he gives out is his own ABC system. John Skelton als...
