Re: Tim Britton reed making kit?
(Hi, Tim! I had the same problem remembering my password after a bunch of years.) I own a set of Tim's pipes. I've also in the past (long past) ordered tools (gouges, reamers) and books/video (reedmaking - I still have a VHS tape and no way to play it anymore). Almost every time Tim was very quick i...

Re: Dry Hands ?
Burt's Bees Hand Salve, Bag Balm and cocoa butter (the solid stuff, not the liquid-y stuff) are all tried and true. And they all smell great.

Re: Chanter experiment..
That is a gorgeous piece. Is there a worry about corrosion with the two different metals? Will the brass rolled innards act as an anode rod?

Re: Reedmakers in North America
I love making my own reeds. And making reeds in general. It's like meditation, art and craft all wrapped up in one process. Plus you get to play your creation. That said, I know of at least three professional pipers (in Ireland, primarily) who absolutely do not make their own reeds and depend on ree...

Re: Stupid drone reed question.
Elder is *all* over the place here in Oregon. And it makes a *beautiful* drone reed, as well as a fantastically subtle chanter reed. People have been experimenting with all sorts of reeding sourcing for years. Weird stuff, too. Why not expand the palette of what's been tried and what works or doesn'...

Re: Maker of UP who also made Highland..
I think (my brain isn't what it used to be) I'm thinking of Wilkinson-McCarthy from the 70's+. But awesome on the list link, thank you so much.

Maker of UP who also made Highland..
Or actually.. I'm trying to remember the name of a maker of Highland pipes who also made (a few) sets of Uilleann Pipes. I can't seem to find a "list of all the makers of UP in history" anywhere, and C&F has never let me down.

Re: Wanted:Chanter reed measurements
What a great resource. Perhaps we can have volunteers (I'll be one) to go through old threads and take out past measurements and post them?

Here's another Jheanne in my city (She's a favorite of mine -- the historic Saint as well as the statue):

If you're interested in this kind of thing, http://www.tg4.tv/ has *tons* of traditional pub music 'on demand.' Haven't seen the DVD you're speaking of, however.

Re: Bellows inlet valve
If it's a bellows inlet valve repair, it's something you should approach yourself unless you're truly a poor, poor craftsman. A little bit of the right kind of leather, a tiny bit of beeswax or other 'bag sealant' on it after you cut it, get it warm (on a radiator or heater of some sort) to 'fit it'...

Re: Learning with Skype
Someone's using Skype for Zen transmission. So you have to decide if mastering the UPs are more complex or less complex than becoming a Zen master.
Or like the rest of the Zen community has done, decide whether or not Zen studies via Skype is a Big (Mind) scam.

Re: Rowsome Owners
It's the perfect list for anyone who wants to steal irreplaceable instruments. I hope that the people who own those instruments and are on the list have been asked if they WANT their name on the list. Also -- that the listmaker understands that if an instrument is stolen from someone on the list tha...
