Re: Looking for a flute in the key of G

I make a 3-piece, 6-hole PVC black G flute with an oval embouchure, inline or offset finger holes, installed Tipple-Fajardo wedge, and faux brushed silver rings for $85. The flute includes a hand-made cloth bag for the assembled flute and a steel/cotton swab. I recently made one of these for a profe...

The photo shows his kit bag of instruments that he uses that were posted on facebook today. Although somewhat out of focus, my rather plain looking pvc flutes are ...

Vintage Tipple flutes for sale

I have a few older Tipple flutes for sale on the current inventory page at my website. The vinyl-covered flutes are ones that I made over ten years ago. I bought them back from ebay auctions. It is my opinion that pvc flutes tend to sound better with age. What do you think about that, folks? I prefer...

Re: Custom made tuning ring and end cap for Tipple flute

Conor, the 7 mm gap between the headjoint and the flute body is just a suggestion given my personal embouchure on a good day. On a bad day or when another person plays the flute, the gap is bound to be something different than 7 mm. Then again, when you are playing with other people, it is important...

Re: Custom made tuning ring and end cap for Tipple flute

It looks nice, Conor. Those a really nice photos of my flute. If you can make these parts, then it wouldn't be difficult to make a complete flute, although I'm not sure how long it would take or what the material expenses would be. We are having a cold spell here, and I suppose you are having a heat...

Re: Posting clips

Patrick MacCubbin, a session player from Baltimore, MD, sent me two mp3 files of him playing my flutes. For the reels he is playing my low D flute with the standard headjoint without the lip plate. For the two jigs he is playing a low C flute with the standard headjoint, again without the lip plate....

Re: Why are these flutes so expensive, and should I buy off ebay

In some parts of the world they don't rely of special medication for growing the pinky to cover those far-away holes for the low notes. They simply put the hole on the bottom side of the flute and cover the hole with their leg, which is easier in the sitting position.

Re: Tipple Flutes, a low cost option.

Thanks for your kind comments, fellows. However, with regard to the question of comparing my cylindrical-bore pvc flutes to good-quality conical-bore flutes that most traditional Irish musicians play, I have the comments of a couple of first-class flute players, as well as my own, discussing this is...

Tipple Flutes, a low cost option.

Enda Seery, a professional flutist in Streamstown, Co. Westmeath, Ireland recently purchased a Tipple low C pvc flute. After opening the box he sat down and recorded a video of him playing a slow air.At my website site on the "audio files page" you will find other videos and mp3 files that...

Re: Tipple vs. Flutomat

Thanks to Skyspirit for his/her additions to this thread, which only goes to show you that there is usually more than one good way of going about making anything, in this case a pvc flute. Skyspirit, I have to admit that you lose me when you say that you need to let the flute "dry out". Ac...

Re: Tipple vs. Flutomat

Hello folks, I have been away from C&F for awhile, spending my time at another site whose name I will not mention, slap me in the face. Here is a suggestion that I mention on my website. Let me praise the wonders of masking tape; I use it for everything. When laying out the position of the finge...

Re: Tipple vs. Flutomat

I have been away from C & F for awhile. Flutomat is an online calculator for calculating the position of tone holes on cylindrical-bore flutes. I use it as a good starting point, and I recommend it to others. However, the finger hole position measurements that I give on my online page about maki...
