Re: Aluminum anodized Whistle properties

Hi Michelle, I've owned several MKs in D and F, both Pro and Kelpie. In my opinion they are slippery, but there are ways to help - here's a current thread on this very topic, and another older one I linked to on page 4. http://forums.chiffandfipple.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=111271 All the MKs I've...

Re: Monster Grips for slippery whistles

I see MK popping up here a lot. I've played many whistles and don't have this issue with most. Yes, agreed, MK's are ridiculously hard to hold, I've tried at least 7, can't seem to hang on to them without a Susato thumb rest AND electrical tape. Even so, something seems amiss. This topic has come up...

Re: Monster Grips for slippery whistles

Question for Bruce, or others who have tried Monster Grips - have you tried removing one? Does it leave behind an impossible to remove sticky mess if you do I wonder. What if you don't like it.

Re: MK Low 'D' slipping, help

Susato thumbrests are a pretty good solution. I find they do slip a bit on my MKs, I've tried several. I'm sorry to hear about Misha's health concerns, I'm quite sympathetic as I have lung issues myself. I haven't heard about this from other makers though; I wonder if there's a good solution, or are...

Re: MK Low 'D' slipping, help

Thanks Bruce, I stand corrected. I guess nobody else here has bought an MK in silver. I'm surprised and disappointed. I thought maybe Misha had been inspired by the earlier discussion and pictures. While the anodized finish looks nice, I have several low C/D/F/G/A plain aluminum/aluminium whistles b...

Re: MK Low 'D' slipping, help

And Derek who wanted to hire D Mc to polish his MK, although Misha now makes them this way. I'm sure Pancelticpiper will agree (he's mentioned many times) all MK's seem to play differently. I concur. I wish they were all plain aluminium. The one you like best might not be. I haven't tried anything f...

Re: MK Low 'D' slipping, help

Here's another thread on the subject, my comments there still sum it up for me. http://forums.chiffandfipple.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=100763 At the time, Misha didn't offer a silver (plain aluminum, aluminium, as you wish) finish. Not long after these comments he started doing that. Coincidence? ...

Robin Williamson's Penny Whistle Book

Informal Survey - What should people know about Robin Williamson's Penny Whistle Book? If you'd like my opinion here is it, but I'd rather hear yours.

Re: Music Quote

Better still, Robin recorded many of those stories and poems with harp accompaniment which he sold at shows on cassette, there are quite a few of these and mine have disappeared. Some are included as bonus tracks on CD re releases of his records. May I humbly recommend "a Glint at the Kindling&...

Re: Music Quote

MODERATOR - Might we add "Robin Williamson's Penny Whistle Book" to the subject of this thread? I'm curious to see how many more among us love this book; as it stands this item will likely get passed over. IMHO Robin's whistle book is a welcoming, not too technical (but not dumbed down) in...

Re: Music Quote

There's a lot more to Robin than whimsy, although yes he's got that in spades. His range is almost Shakespearean; high bardic poetry one moment, toilet humor the next; on stage anyway. The discs from the psychedelic era are admittedly a bit odd, but also capture moments of tear inducing beauty. A re...

Re: Music Quote

I had the very great pleasure of taking part in a week long workshop with Robin Williamson in 1987. I won't attempt to speak for the man but I could see him having a good larf over this. Has anyone besides me witnessed him in concert? He gets my vote for favorite living performer. He plays many inst...

For that matter I wanted to ask the same of this person, but they didn't announce their posting to our merry throng. Evidently the "extremely rare" attempt didn't work out so well for them. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Extremely-Rare-Sindt-Whistle-Key-of-B-Flat-Great-Condition-FREE-SHIPPING-/3...
