Re: A consignment of old flutes

I had a Thomas Croger 8 key flute for years. Not a bad player too. No idea who really made it but a kind of "nach Metzler" flute.

I've never seen another D one but I saw 1 other F flute a year or 2 ago. Good flutes.

Re: Question for pipemakers

The first thing would be to glue the cracks. You'd need a very thin epoxy or super glue. Glue and clamp. Be sure to clamp it so the stock takes its original shape as the presence of a lot of glue could put pressure on the wood and widen the crack of the winter gets drier. Then enlarge the socket. To...

Re: How to make to whistles

There's lots of YouTube videos on the subject. Here's one to start. https://youtu.be/NjPzwtQ60Dc Also http://www.busmanwhistles.com/in-the-shop/ These sites are showing how to make wooden whistles but the principal is the same for making the mouth pieces. There are other designs too worth investigat...

Re: High F whistle, thoughts?

Sharon Shannon played an F whistle on the Disirt Tola record. It's a great sound but I'm sure the recording process cut a bit of the harshness out of it.
Lovely set of tunes too.

I don't know if it's online at all. But a great record if you could find it.

Re: How loud is your bell note?

- Do tapered bore whistles have a quieter bell note than cylindrical whistles? It depends on the rate of taper and the overall whistle design. But they shouldn't be quieter. - Does enlarging the bore in the last centimetre or two at the foot of a tapered bore whistle improve the bell note? It can be...

$800 obo

I could drop the price further or go to eBay but a reasonable offer here would be great too.

Re: Amazing new resource - Lives of the Pipers

If only I could find out more about Joe Tierney. A piper from St Louis. I found 1 reference of him playing in New York city in 1892. Another mention of "a piper from St Louis" playing at an event in St Joseph,MO, but no name mentioned. No mention of him in 1904 at the Fair but he could hav...

Re: Scott, London christian name?

I remember that set coming up for sale about 12 years ago or so.
I was an interesting set. Only 3 keys on the bass and baritone, 4 on the tenor so the ACA notes weren't there.

But I think it was a C set though.

Any others remember it?

Re: Paddy Keenan's pipes for sale

I believe he is playing a Quinn and Koehler set for a good few years now.

The old Crowley set has been sitting under his bed for years.
I guess Paddy thinks they need a new home.
