SERPENT MUSIC IS CLOSED
Serpent Music is closed. I made some stupid decisions, and it has caused this to happen. Those decisions have negatively affected others, and I am sorry for that, and will do whatever I can to ameliorate it. The site remains, and carries an announcement a bit more in-depth, but the net is, Serpent M...

CP Serpent's (almost) BACK...
Zowie! Got back in my shop to discover someone had stolen my refrigerator ($1500) while the landlord was "inspecting" and inadvertently left the back dock open. Great. Well, he gives me free rent for a few months now. The machinery is on the benches, the power is getting checked out, and I...

Followup on Collaboration
I wrote the lyrics to a little piece "Pursued her (til she caught me)" and asked for folks to do music for it. I got 2 entries, and forthwith, present them for your perusal, fun, addition, whatever. From Fearfaoin, and from Walt Campbell, come two completely different treatments, both good...

I recommend whatever sort of mic your recording equipment will support. I use a Tascam 414 that takes a dynamic mic. My mniidisc uses condenser mics, and the FD4 uses dynamic. I record live with the minidisc, and use a stereo pair of omnidirectional condenser mics in the middle of the stage when doi...

Delrin / Acetal
Delrin is DuPont's proprietary name for acetal. (Oops, Jerry already said that! :) ) It's dense and low-friction. The first place I ever saw it was as a speedometer gear in a tranny on a 1966 Chevrolet van. It was invented around 1956. The fact that it can be used for precision gears in motor vehicl...

Fostex says...
Talking out of both sides of their mouths, the lads at Fostex have given me the stories that: (a) The FD4 will support FDD over 20GB (b) The FD4 can't be used with external SCSI HDD Yeah, there's something wrong. It's sitting on -61:80 for the past 2 hours. I asked for their format spec, which, if t...

Knickers in a twist
Well, he's left me alone for a day now, having discovered that I won't rise to the bait and get abusive back, I guess. (sigh... sometimes I want to return in kind, but every time I have, I've felt like a real s**t afterward and usually apologized) Answering direct questions - soprano Eb and D, and a...

OT MUSIC TECH: FOSTEX FD4 with a MONSTER HDD - Need wisdom
I bought a Fostex FD4 multitrack recorder in like-new condition from eBay. It didn't have the 2.5" IDE drive installed, but I have a 73GB Atlas Ultra320 SCSI drive in an external case, which it was able to recognize. I started it formatting at 3PM today (14 September 2006) It is now 8:20PM and ...

Sympathizing with John McHaffie - a horror story -
Wow. Never again will I tell anyone one single peep about the progress of their whistles. I have just received two of the most venomous emails in my life from one purchaser who found it impossible to comprehend that when I cannot work on whistles, they don't get finished! What a concept. Fortunately...

CP Serpent Music Moving Woes Yet Again
I just wanted to get on here and let everyone know a few things that are going on. The contract for which I moved to Dalton GA has completed way early, and I'm having to move back to Alpharetta as I can find no location for a shop at any price within affordability. It is not possible to manufacture ...
