I love my Oak. It's my favourite quiet whistle. I also think the Walton's little black whistle has a decent sound (their metal ones I don't like at all).

I have a feadog and it's simply horrible.

I bought a drumstick bag and my mother sewed up each pocket so there were two. It holds all of the whistles I can bring to session except the low G and D, which are too big for it. I stuff the drumstick bag into my bodhran bag for session. And before anyone asks, yes, the bodhran is in there too! ~C...

Ok thanks Loren. As I noted above, I wasn't aware they were using the term "African Blackwood" to mean Grenadilla. I wasn't aware they were the same wood as I'd only seen the term "Grenadilla" before. I assumed the other was a different type of wood.

African Blackwood? Same stuff, I thought... Interesting. If it is, I didn't know they used a more generic term for it. I assumed that it could be any sort of African blackwood and perhaps it was something other than Grenadilla. If that's the case, then cool. I like Grenadilla a lot. ~Crysania

Interesting. I've never seen it listed whenever I've looked.

Even the cheapest clarinet isn't "cheap" -- plastic clarinets usually run $300-400. It's all relative. Well-crafted musical instruments are usually NOT cheap and when it comes to instruments with as many keys and little intricacies as a clarinet or keyed flute, even the lowest of the low i...

There are plenty of intermediate clarinets. But even then you're looking to spend $1000 or so. Top of the line clarinets are made of Grenadilla (and can cost upwards of $3000 -- cheap compared to string instruments and bassoons!). It's a very dense African blackwood that works well for the instrumen...

According to thesession.org (http://www.thesession.org/sessions/display/52), there's one at the Snow City Cafe. A note from March 2005 said it was still going strong.

So far so good on my whistles. *crosses fingers* But I pretty much just play Susatos and Generations right now and luckily they're not terribly expensive. I *have* dropped them on the ground from a high table but nothing bad happened to them. I did knock over my clarinet one time right before a big ...

Thanks for letting me know your experience Montana. I figured they didn't, but I just wanted to make sure before we ran out and spent money on an mp3 player. avanutria -- I don't know the answer to that question. Someone told me some larger international flights did. So I thought I'd check. And um.....

Hi rh! It's good to see another music theory-obsessed type here. I have a bachelors in music theory/history, a masters in compostion, and I'm finishing up my doctorate in music theory/composition whenever I can actually get my behind a-writing that darned dissertation! I've spent a lot of years anal...

Aerlingus

I think this is the best place to ask this, but I'm not sure. I'm going to be flying to Ireland via Aerlingus this summer. For those of you who have flown with them before -- do you know if they are set up to let you plug your laptop in? I'm doubting it, but I thought I'd check before we run out and...

I don't have a problem with the C natural on my Susato whistle. It seems to work just fine.

Back pressure IS a matter of preference. I'm a longtime clarinet player as well and I found I like the back pressure a lot. It feels more natural to me. I like the resistance.

FS: Susato Dublin model low A and G -- SOLD!

I've just recently bought tuneable Kildare model low A and G whistles, so I'm looking to find a good home for my Dublin models. Both are lovely whistles and good low whistles, especially for those who are looking for solid, but fairly inexpensive low whistles. I'm selling them for $25 each or $40 fo...
