Can't wait to lay my hands on it tomorrow. Let the party begin!
Paul, you've had yours for over a month now. How's the playing?

Irish tunes on the xaphoon?
I've had a xaphoon for a while and have been to play a few Irish tunes on it. Once I got used to the fingering, it was actually fairly easy to transfer what I'd learnt on the whistle to the xaphoon. So when I searched on Youtube and elsewhere for Irish tune recordings on the xaphoon I was mildly sur...

Re: Tearful adieu to my Olwell bamboo - key of D
That certainly was a bargain. I should've spent some time looking at recent prices of Olwell bamboos before putting mine up for sale ... had no idea they'd appreciated so much in the past few years!

Tearful adieu to my Olwell bamboo - key of D
Hi. I'd like to sell my Patrick Olwell bamboo flute in the key of D. The instrument is in great condition and has been taken good care of. The blow hole has some wear but nothing that affects the tone or playability of the flute. The flute's easy to play and has a warm tone. I bought this instrument...

Re: Difficulty producing clear half-hole notes
Cork, do you have recommendations of a good affordable beginner silver flute? There doesn't seem to be a flute-rental place near where I live.

For Sale: Casey Burns 2-piece Mopane Folk Flute + case
I'm parting with my Casey Burns 2-piece folk flute made from mopane. This is the earlier model before he switched to 3-piece folk flutes, and comes in a Doksocil 2-pistol case. It plays beautifully! Price: $295 + S&H ($250 for the flute, $45 for the case) Reason for selling: Financing my purchas...

Re: Difficulty producing clear half-hole notes
I'm now seriously considering buying a silver flute for my chromatic needs and using my bamboo for ITM. Where can I find a cross-fingering chart for the simple-system flute?

Re: Difficulty producing clear half-hole notes
As a starting exercise, I'm practicing the major scales for each fully closed note (d, e, f#, g...). So far, am able to play the scales for D, E, G and A easily, but am having more trouble with F#, B and C# (particularly the Eb note as Denny said).

Difficulty producing clear half-hole notes
Hi all,
I'm trying to learn to play a full chromatic scale on my Olwell bamboo by partially covering holes. But the notes sound muffled and weak when I half-hole. I'd appreciate any tips for getting clear loud notes.
Regards,
Nash

Jim and Cat, thanks for your suggestions! I managed to get hold of mp3's of these pieces on the Net. But picking up classical music by ear is going to be a whole different animal than ITM! There are no repeated parts, no familiar phrases that I can borrow from other Irish tunes I've learnt. Let's se...
