Re: Current wait time for a keyed flute?
I am now around 6 months to a year or more for a keyed flute. People have been ordering flutes like crazy since the start of the Pandemic and my queue hasn't been this large since the Clinton years. I on the other hand have been feeling less inspired because of the Pandemic, slowing me down. Especia...

Re: Carbon Fiber Flutes?
My customers are rushing rushing to order wood Folk Flutes before I change these over to 3D printed plastic. I've set a tentative deadline in a month or two - based on when I get the plastic ones up and running without trouble. I have way too many orders for the wood ones to fill usually and the eff...

Re: Carbon Fiber Flutes?
I've seen other instruments made with it such as guitars and its a lively acoustical material. Rob Gandara does quite good with his instruments and I am pleased that he has a reachable low whistle with these. I looked into it myself once but decided I didn't really want to be around the sheets nor t...

Re: Printing from Liquid Resin
The Richlite is not reliable - I used some for a tooling setup and discovered that it will simply break across its grain or in a random direction. Also, the minimum size is a 4 X 8 sheet 1.5" thick weighing some 300+ pounds. I don't have the machinery to handle this! For making key masters and ...

Re: CP: Bidell Flute and other news
This will be the replacement for my $450 Folk Flute and still be priced at $450. It can also be ordered with a single Eb key made in silicon bronze for $550. However, this is not something retrofittable.

Re: CP: Bidell Flute and other news
Most likely I will have more of that clarinet body wood available too since I will no longer need it for these Folk Flutes.

Re: CP: Bidell Flute and other news
Not quite cured and this stuff looks great after some very light sanding followed by a finish. It certainly looks good as Blackwood and will be a believable substance! Thus in review After Aug 31st: My flutes with rings and slides including keyed flutes - no changes, available in Boxwood, Blackwood,...

CP: Bidell Flute and other news
Here is a little something I picked up at a nearby auction house that specializes in estate sales yesterday for $66.58 The bidding was fierce! http://www.caseyburnsflutes.com/bidell.jpg Its a flute made by A.U.Bidell from Stockholm circa 1815-1830. Ebony and fossil ivory (according to the growth rin...

Printing from Liquid Resin
Am now at this moment 3D printing a foot joint based on my flute designs. Last winter I decided that the 3D printers with the filament were just not accurate enough to do this. I just received yesterday one of the printers that use a liquid resin bath. They are a bit more of a hassle to use for sure...

Re: CP The Furture of Folk Flutes
It will be pretty much in the same way the modern Alto flutes in A (they call these G flutes) are playable. Starting with a head joint bore of 25mm and tapering down slightly in the bidy. The embouchure cut is highly critical for bet response and volume. But then the tone holes are too far apart and...

Re: CP The Furture of Folk Flutes
Tell me about it! I've been getting a lot of flute orders - including for my keyed flutes. Added to this are two projects in development: My Low G Alto Flute : this will be a large-bored loud session-capable flute in the key of G that will also be quite ergonomic to the hands and arms, with fingerho...

CP The Furture of Folk Flutes
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. I will be temporarily suspending the production of Folk Flutes after the beginning of Fall. I need to take a break from these and work other flutes. I am exploring other materials and have someting that I am not ready to announce. Eventually if she ever makes...
