FS: Belgarth Handmade Tunable Bodhran SOLD

Reluctant sale, but it doesn't get played - which is criminal for such a nice instrument - and I have to find the money for a new guitar. Made by Eoin Leonard at Belgarth Bodhrans in Orkney. 16" tunable bodhran. Amazing heavy skin, ash frame, allen wrench tuning (key included). With gigbag and ...

Re: Digeridoo in Irish/folk music

In a group/band, do what you like. If you market yourselves as trad then the didge may raise a few eyebrows, but if not marketed as trad then if it were my band I would do what the hell I liked. No reason you can't accompany Irish tunes with a didge, or any other instrument. On the other hand, if I ...

Re: Mandolin chop chords?

I used to find chop/closed chords awkward. Like Tim said, Ted E's FFcP system is good for getting the fingers used to coping without open strings, and for developing pinky strength and dexterity. It's more about scales than chords, but it provides a great workout that pays off in all areas. And like...

Re: Is this a good mandolin?

Except for mandos with guitar-style bridges such as those used by Crafter and Thomas Buchanan, pretty much all mandolins have floating bridges. I suppose it is perfectly possible to mark the bridge position once established, but the bridge position may need a slight nudge if the string gauges change...

FS: Ozark (Trinity College) Octave Mandolin w/ Case SOLD

Ozark (Trinity College) Octave Mandolin / Octave Mandola Nearly New! I bought from Eagle Music Shop less than a month ago. Reason for sale: I've decided I'd rather have another mandolin. This is a bit long for my short fingers and mandolins just fit me better. I would have returned this to Eagle und...

Re: Experience with Gliga Violins? Advice for first fiddle buy.

I'm late to this, I'm afraid. I had a low end Gliga - a Genial. It was a nice fiddle for the price. I like Gligas. The Gama I heard a while back was a great sounding fiddle. If you're in Oz, check out the Gliga videos by Whitehorse Music on Youtube. Search "Gliga violin whitehorse". The fe...

Re: Which Microphones for high quality Recording of Whistles??

I'd say a large diaphragm condenser mic, as for which one to go with, I can't say as I've not recorded anything on whistle on a mic even remotely within your budget I don't think there are any large diaphragm condensers in his budget. They seem to start at around us$300. I'd love to have one myself...

Re: Favorite Reels

A lot of the cliche, greatest-hits ones are great tunes - which is why they get done to death. I still love 'em. Maid Behind the Bar Drowsy Maggie Col. Rodney's Silver Spear Swallow's Tail Fermoy Lasses Wind That Shakes the Barley Not trolling, I really do still like this stuff, despite the eye-roll...

Re: the case for learning one instrument

Common sense suggests that if one concentrates on one instrument then one will make better progress toward mastery. The following is general, not strictly relating to ITM... I play a heap of instruments: mandolin, tin whistle, fiddle, bodhran*, guitar, tenor banjo, bouzouki, harmonica etc etc etc. I...
