Re: Innovations
I like bamboo too, I own one from Barna Gabos in Eb, sounds amazing and its lightness makes it even more comfortable to play. Nevertheless, choosing bamboo require making big compromises. Can't really make a proper conical bore, can't add keys nor make a tuning slide. Also, the bamboo Barna uses com...

Wooden keys? Why Aesthetics I guess, I was just writting whatever came through my mind at this stage. Right now, I'm leaning towards making a flute out of unusable wood. We have some studies in progress in my school, they're basically turning rotten wood into something that can be used in instrumen...

Re: Innovations
Thank you for all your ideas. Here are mines, some are not enough on their own but could be combined with others. Some are maybe stupid, useless or impossible to make. But here's what I got so far: - Adding a roller the short F key so that it's easier to play Fnat ->D - Making an A or B footjoint (I...

Re: Innovations
I also feel like the flute is more comfortable than the low whistle for the same reasons. However, I can't argue that it is more straightforward for a beginner to hold a vertical instrument. Also because the flute is an exception in the woodwind section, if you come from sax, clarinet, oboe or simpl...

Re: Innovations
Thanks for those first few replies, it's very exciting indeed!
Speaking of vertical flutes, have you ever came across a Giorgi type of headjoint? I wonder how it would sound. http://www.oldflutes.com/articles/giorgi.htm

Hi, I'm studying wind instruments repairing at Itemm (Institut technologique européen des métiers de la musique) in Le Mans, France. For my last 2 years, I 'm asked to develop a project. To give you an idea, last years' students did a vertical Boehm flute, an extended bass clarinet, a partially wood...

Re: Wooden flute sounds better during the heatwave?
Nice music link, I had a listen. Thank you! Where are you playing? Well actually I played in a lot of different rooms including the two rooms that I'm really used to. I also played outside and it was less deceptive than I would have imagine. Also, in warmer weather, your body may be loosened up mor...

Wooden flute sounds better during the heatwave?
Hi, I've been playing quite a lot this last 10 days because I had a concert with my nordic folk music quartet and I realized how better my wooden flute (mopane) seems to sound during the heatwave. Even the 3rd octave seems easy to play. But is that possible? Also, I've had this feeling for quite a l...

Re: Photos of your collection!
Well, maybe I was being a bit sarcastic :D Gotta catch 'em all! I like my Dixon high D but don't play it that much because de cnat oxx ooo is too high, sadly. It's just too much work to think about compensating or halfholing or anything that could make it more in tune. But at that price it is still ...
