Re: Ebay Items

That vignoles listing is hysterical - so many caveats about how it will sound bad. So I kinda took a chance and bought them as my first set. Did I make a huge mistake? I want to learn but can't afford much so I figured I'd take the risk. I have a full set by Vignoles minus the chanter, the drones a...

Re: Flat C#, every other note seems good

Rory, sure isn't that what makes the pipes so interesting. I'd love to know what causes it to act differently, the reed, the chanter, undercut holes, the weather. I'm sure with 5,000 pipers we can come up with the answer. I'm going to suggest the scrape, towards the tip of the V, back about 5mm, thi...

Re: Flat C#, every other note seems good

Rory, that's good news, I have another Chanter with C natural at 0, so will complete the full set. I can probably get the 3 c's down a bit.

thePhotopiper: If you are reading this, if you open the B hole with the C it will bring C# up at least 10 cent.

He's not the piper, but I'll ask the piper if he will do it.

Re: Lessons

James, good advice there from Pipewort. I bought the CD's years ago, didn't know they were available on-line. I know somebody who might give you a few lessons on Skype, he's local but that's by the way. If you know Eamonn Brennan then you may know him yourself.

Re: Flat C#, every other note seems good

Thank you Geoff, That information was a great help. I had the chart with C natural at -31 but knew of the existence of the other one. Only that you posted I would have thought that Dave Hegarty's chart would be the one to follow. I've re-tuned my chanter because it wasn't quite right, was somewhere ...

Re: Flat C#, every other note seems good

Rory, thank you, this is what I was looking for.

Pudinka, I'm sure you know that a flat or varying C natural sounds good in some slow airs and is achieved by rolling the left forefinger off the C hole, going from low to high and gives the sad tone you mentioned.

Re: Flat C#, every other note seems good

I've checked my readings. Both the Tenor and Bass Regulators are set at C natural =0. When played with the Drones which are set at D=0 there is no warble so I think something between -10 to +5 may be ok for C natural on the Chanter. So between 0 and -10 for C# should be ok for the chanter, mine is -...

Re: Flat C#, every other note seems good

Can somebody post the readings for C# and C natural from their set which is in harmony with the drones. This would be useful as there are conflicting readings in print.

Re: Regulator tuning question

Tiarnard,
The action is the amount the key should be opened to achieve the correct pitch (with normal air pressure).
The filling could be blue tack or something similar stuck on the tuning wire/pin.
