Re: Mk Pro clogs in less than a minute

Hi, Just to add, as a beginner I had a problem with almost all my whistles clogging and it eventually stopped with all of them. I’m pretty sure it was nothing to do with the whistles directly, but something to do with my technique improving subconsciously eg me becoming more efficient with my breath...

Re: NEW WHISTLES released: we need reviews!

If anyone is inspired to review these, can they please please record in raw audio. I understand the temptation to add compression, and maybe some reverb, to sound nice, but the mainstream YouTube reviewers (whilst lovely) are next to useless to make a comparison as the sound is so far from real. I u...

Re: Suggestions for a travel and practice whistle?

Just to upvote the suggestion of getting a tunable whistle that breaks into 2 roughly equal pieces to make it smaller/pocket sized for when you don’t want to carry your backpack.

Re: Playing Low Whistle Outside

Not a definitive answer at all, but I’ve collected quite a few Low Ds over the years (as in tried to pretend the issue was the whistle not me!): - Tony dixon abs - Tony dixon 3 part Delrin (the brass ring + cork joints flute/low d comb one) - Kerry Optima (Chieftain) - Chieftain v5 - Susato Kildare ...

Suggestion: Remove/reduce the 12 pinned threads…

Hi, Just a suggestion, as an in frequent visitor. The site is great, but has multiple “pinned threads” at the top of each forum room. Many haven’t had updates for multiple years. Eg the first 12 threads in the main room are all pinned. It might be worth having a cull/consolidation of these at some p...

Re: Whistles with similar sound to Dixon polymer low D?

Just because it’s not featured yet, I really like Susato’s Kildare Low D. I also own a chieftain v5, kerry optima, shearwater and Tony Dixon (the expensive delrin whistle/flute combo one) and the susato is by far my favourite and has a full haunting sound with a strong bell note (I haven’t tried an ...

Re: Lir whistles

There are lots of posts on the Facebook whistle forums (particularly “the Irish whistle” one) of people not receiving orders for many months (and communication stopping) and having to get their money back through PayPal from Lir.

Re: Festivals this year?

From what I’ve read, a big issue is it’s not possible to buy any insurance products for festivals/events against cancellation due to covid restrictions in the U.K. at the moment. The result is, despite a high percentage of the U.K. population now having covid antibodies, more and more festivals are ...

Re: Any High D Shearwater whistle owners?

Hi,

I have the narrow bore version too.
Whistles do vary sometimes and the sound is very personal, so personally I’d still go ahead and buy one and you may love it.
It’s not in anyway a bad whistle, just not my favourite but it could be yours (and the other user above really likes it).

Re: 53 million plus views for a whistle

I like how happy all the band members seem!
They look like they’re all having a really wonderful time :-)

Re. What whistle is it, I can’t quite make it out but looks similar to a Susato Kildare of some sort.

Re: Any High D Shearwater whistle owners?

Whistle sounds are so personal, so am going to comment but think you should still get one and see if you like it. I have a shearwater low d and low f (which I love) and a highD which is ok but not my favourite. It has quite an unusual sound, very quiet and very chiffy, a little like a wooden block C...

Re: Tin whistles in the wind

Thanks everyone, sounds like nothing exists, possibly due to the laws of physics!

@mr Gumby, thanks I’ve tried that before and it helps a little but I think my whistle (or playing) may be particularly prone to wind cutting it out as still a small breeze makes it unplayable.

Tin whistles in the wind

Hi everyone,

Does anyone know if any products exist to allow you to play tin whistle in a breeze?
Mine lose their sound in even a slight breeze.

Thank you

Re: Anyone own a Tony dixon 3 piece delrin? Upgrading worth

Thankyou so much everyone that’s answered my question absolutely perfectly (I didn’t expect many/any people to own it!) It sounds like it’s exactly the same with whistles in that a more expensive one won’t necessarily make it easier to play, other than having offset holes (2 of you say the TD is act...

Anyone own a Tony dixon 3 piece delrin? Upgrading worth it?

Hi, I have a tony Dixon 3 piece delrin flute (this is different/better than the usual TD pvc ones). I’ve been playing whistle about 2.5 years and flute about 1.5 and loving the flute more and more. I have small hands and have to use the pipers grip for both and still it’s a stretch on my tony Dixon....
