Re: 2020 Tin Whistle Enthusiasts Q & A

What specifically does it do? If you play from Bottom D up the scale to B in the 2nd octave which notes are off, are they sharp or flat? Taking beginner's error into account, I can't guarantee how reliable these readings are. They were done with a tuner app on my phone. The problem is that while wa...

Re: 2020 Tin Whistle Enthusiasts Q & A

Flat second octave? If yes, then try tuning to the 2nd octave D not the first. Better to have the higher notes in tune than the first octave. Good point. I'll try that. Thanks for the suggestion. But most of the cheap whistles have some tuning issues. For $13, it has easily exceeded my expectations...

Yes. It's not in tune with itself. I've adjusted the head to the best compromise.

I have an Oak in C, and the triple-nickel plating is quite nice. While I like the Oak's tone a lot, mine has some mi...

Re: New Tunes for the Lock In

My duet partner and I are no longer getting together, but we're doing the equivalent of work-at-home music. We've organized all our tunes on Google Sheets. We keep 10 current pieces to learn, in various stages, and we track our progress. Each of us checks them off as we are ready to move on to new m...

Welcome, kittynyc. Nice to have you join us. :)

What a neat trick in that video. Impossible to do while we are all social distancing, but it was still fun to see.

Waving back to Potoroo ~~~~~~~~~. Welcome to the forum. I don't have that book, but I checked the "Look Inside" feature on Amazon. That tune is Egan's Polka. It's on page 74 in The Bill Ochs Tin Whistle Handbook . Ryan Duns shares the sheet music on his blog, with his teaching video: http:...

Here's another vote for the Dixon alloy DX006D. Although I don't have a lot of experience, I've been happy with the tone. Another nice feature is the oxx ooo fingering for C-natural, which is in tune.

Re: Melodic Cuts

Surprisingly little shows up on Google for that phrase. OAIM mentions it in their tin whistle foundations course, Lesson 4, which says The Toormore Slide, Melodic Cuts. Scroll 3/4 of the way down this page: https://www.oaim.ie/tin-whistle/tin-whistle-foundations/ . We'd need someone with an OAIM mem...
