Re: Gradual drop at the end : how to do it?
Just to clarify the effect you're going for-- you're looking for a drop in pitch, and not just an alternative to suddenly cutting off a note, right? (I myself find the abrupt cutoff jarring, but also find the drop in pitch with a gradual taper-off to be undesirable-- it makes it sound like I ran ou...

Re: Gradual drop at the end : how to do it?
Hi there, For me, it's simply a drop in air pressure, from the pressure required to play the specific note preceding the drop. The gradual but rapid drop in pressure will make the note flatter, resulting in the "curved" effect you describe. Try it up the scale, beginning on the lowest not...

Gradual drop at the end : how to do it?
Hello everyone, Hope you guys are coping well with COVID and you are still sane. I just don't think much about it anymore. Back to whistling ... I noticed that there is a technique for a curvy stop towards the end of a musical phrase. Players like Eric Rigler does that a lot with his Irish Pipe. But...

It would be cool if you identify the exact place in that video where Eric is doing the technique you're referring to.
It's the only way that everyone can know we're discussing the same thing.

Name this technique?
Is there a name for this technique where you push enough air into the whistle until it's about to break the note in the 1st octave (but not break) and it produces a raspy, windy sound? Is there a name for this? I think Eric Rigler did it a lot in this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5y3vmS1ob6w&...

Re: Burke E/Eb whistle
One more additional factor to consider when choosing a whistle: the fitment of the holes to your fingers. I find the Burke high E and narrow high D fit my fingers perfectly. It provided an effortless & natural platform for applying a slide. On second thought, I do not think it's just the physica...

Re: Best Bamboo Flute?
I thought the traditional bamboo flutes are from China? It has been made and used for, at least, a couple thousand years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dizi_(instrument) You should be able to get a Chinese made one from Amazon. Just watch for a highly rated one. They are priced affordably. Don't for...

Tony Dixon DX005(D) : newer version vs old
Read quite a few reviews of the Tony Dixon (model DX005D) and thought I wanted to have a light blowing (no pressure) & soft practice whistle. Bought one from Hobglobin-USA and when I received it, it was the one without the lower bras band at the bottom, even though the website displayed the newe...
