Re: Compliment leads to LOTR request
I know Concerning Hobbits is the main theme from LOTR, but I don't know of any others.

Re: Tweaks: The Thread
I’ve started playing again after 15 years or so and one of the old whistles I dug out was an O’Briain Improved. Does that mean it’s been tweaked? Does anyone know how? Didn’t see too much on their FB page... I've got one of those myself. I believe it's tweaked in the usual ways, filling the cavity ...

Re: DIY Copper Pennywhistle with 3D Printed Mouthpiece
Richard, I'm definitely not a whistle maker either and just a rank novice at whistling, but here is something that I noticed about the Tilbury's whistles that I have. I'll post a picture later. I've got three of his whistles (C, Bb and low G). Each of them has a flat blade and the windway has a fla...

I recently had a whistle sent the other way, US to UK, and it took about a month to arrive.

My favourite whistle is my Mack Hoover phenolic resin D. $45, so just in that price range.

Re: Recommended tweaked whistle in the freeman price bracket
I have an O'Briain, I think you'd like it. It has a similar sound to the standard cheap whistles, probably a bit cleaner on the lower octave but with a much sweeter upper octave. I recommend it.

Re: Good mid tier options?
It is true that I do have a extreme tenancy to go out of my way to buy something different haha. Not exactly the best habbit. I haven't been able to find a lot of info on Syn whistles so I should prob cross those out, even though the kit ability is nice. Is too risky with the tone buzzing, I cant f...

I have an Oak D purchased only a few months ago, and it has a very similar design to the above image.

Re: Starter Whistle/set recommendation?
The Clarke Sweetone is a good one for beginners. It's consistent, sounds quite good and is amongst the cheapest available.

I have a Mack Hoover phenolic resin D, it's quiet and has little chiff. He also does a brass version, and either one should be in your price range.

Re: 2020 Tin Whistle Enthusiasts Q & A
I want to eventually play a mezzo G, but I have no plans to go lower than that (famous last words) . However, I love the sound of low D . Are you going to jump straight from a high D to a low D, or have you already played some of the in-between sizes? I've had a low F, a low G and a Generatio...

Re: 2020 Tin Whistle Enthusiasts Q & A
1. I got back into whistling and memorised a fair few tunes.
2. Practice more.
3. Currently, Greensleeves to a Ground.
4. Probably a low D.

Re: Recorder player wants to learn a louder, buzzier instrum
The Dood and Toot seem to be available for about twenty five pounds, while the Venova is about 80-85. It sounds good enough on Youtube. The range is limited but most of my whistle repertoire would just about fit if transposed into C.

Re: Manufacturers that make all metal one piece high whistle
It appears that the Hoover website is no longer available.. Hmm. It was up couple of days ago. In any case, the website doesn't do much except list some products and give his e-mail address, which you contact for enquiries or purchases, and is hoover(dot)mc(at)gmail(dot)com I think Shearwater do an...
