Re: Delrin Pratten
Francois Baubet makes a keyed delrin flute--never tried one of his. FWIW, my experience with both the maker and his flutes has generally not been good: I’ve had 2 keyless and one keyed. Two were acquired used, one was ordered and purchased directly from the maker. All were problematic, not instrume...

Re: Feedback on Chinese Knockoff of John Sindt
From the video I'd say it sounds much more breathy and less pure than a killarney. But the specific recording setup plays a big role..

Re: CP (Kind of?) First look at Barter Loch whistles
Looks really nice! What kind of resine are you using to print the heads? Is-it non-toxic?
No need for post-processing or fipple adjustment?

Re: Killarney VS Sindt...again
I'd add a couple of Sindt-like whistles to the comparison: Lir and Mcneela Wild. My Killarney Nickel D it's also not the D whistle I pick the most. I find it a bit shrill in the 2nd register, and upper A and B slightly flat even overblowing. I find that even my Dixon Trad Brass goes better with othe...

Re: Young Beginner Whistle
I would go for a Tony Dixon Trad D. I would not recommend a susato for new player as 2nd octave requires quite an effort at the beginning.

Re: Goldie or Thunderbird?
I have a Shearwater Low F and a Goldie Low D MS blower. From my own experience I can say the following: -Goldie: great sound in tone and power, requires more technique or push to reach 2nd octave notes. Consumes by far less amount of air. Perfect tuning almost with no effort. -Shearwater: more pure ...

I'd also like to know more about this flute maker, as I could not find any feedback about his work online. His flutes seem to be big bore big holes pratten like.

Re: Scaling Flutes to different keys
Many thanks! Then if I summarize, to go from D to Eb: -Length can be scaled with factor 1.0595. -Bore can be scaled with the same factor or, using the expression from Tunborough (ratio of inverses of frequency to the power of 5/6), with factor 1.0493. I'll try first just scaling everything with 1.05...

Scaling Flutes to different keys
Hello! My understanding is that nowadays flute designs are normally based on great old simple system models (Rudall, Pratten) and then makers introduce their own design improvements such they can obtain better performances (correct 440Hz tuning, hard D, stronger sound,…). My question regards flutes ...

Re: Mothpiece questions
From my own experience making PVC and also 3D printed whistle heads, my conclusions are: -Windway must be as smooth and homogeneous as possible, and point to the direction of the blade (lip) so air stream hits the blade in the correct way. So yes, windway entrance height matters unless you make it r...

Hi there! Sorry to revive the thread, but does anybody know if this issue is also present on Lír whistles?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Advice on Tunning for a PVC Low F whistle
Thanks a lot! I will try WIDesigner and Flutomat. For info I've finished the construction of a new Low F based on the Bracker Whistle calculator and tuning on both registers is really good. However the last hole is really far and makes it difficult to play (the one based on Guido's design was really...

Advice on Tunning for a PVC Low F whistle
Hello everyone! During the last two months I constructed quite a few whistles out of PVC pipe following Low-tech whistle instructions. I have achieved pretty good results with Soprano and even Tenor whistles, playing reasoneably well both registers and with decent tunning. However I am really strugg...
