Re: Forum re: making whistles

Thank you -- I am hip to that site. I also have Bart Hopkin's excellent Musical Instrument Design which has a small section on fipples and tone holes and the like.

Re: Forum re: making whistles

We're in the same city - do we perhaps know each other already? I'm building whistles and would be happy to share some experimental observations with you. I am one of the three hosts of Shawn's session on Wednesday. Thanks! Are you in Seattle? I'm up in Bellingham... it'd probably be premature to t...

Re: Whistle shops in the Pacific NW of USA?

It looks like Clarion's retail operation closed in 2016: https://clarionmusic.com/history/ Yeah, too bad. Not surprising, though. Circa 1998 it was an amazing place to wander around in. I don't think I ever saw someone purchase something. :-) It was like a big, dusty museum of exotic instruments th...

Adequeate posts but lacking PM permission

Hi -- would a moderator kindly enable my PM permissions? (I think I have enough posts now?)

Someone responded to my inquiry about whistles teachers, and I haven't been able to respond. Thanks!

Re: Whistle shops in the Pacific NW of USA?

Oops -- I might have been confusing Dusty Strings with Lark or something... (I used to live in the Bay Area)... pics online seem to show that Dusty Strings has more of the budget tier of whistles only... @RenaissanceGuy -- is Clarion Music still a store in Sn Francisco? I find their website but no m...

Re: Whistle shops in the Pacific NW of USA?

Thanks for the tips, everyone; am I correct that Dusty Strings has a selection of whistles? Or am I misremembering the flute selection they have as including whistles... it's been like 15 years since I was in there...

Forum re: making whistles

Is there a subforum here (or elsewhere) to discuss the design and building of whistles? I have found lots of nice resources online, but not a discussion forum...

Re: Crook-neck Susato low C

Yeah, my low C is a really nice whistle. I don't have broad experience, but I like it a lot. My low D (also Susato) is nice, but the C is a bit mellower. Of course I've also played it for many more years than the D, so it probably just feels right for that reason. I certainly get lots of comments on...

Crook-neck Susato low C

Hi -- I have a low C Susato, with the bent neck (looks similar to the low D in this video ). I love it. I'm playing it in a group, so now I get nervous that if I ever lose it or damage it I'd be stuck without a low C, so I've been shopping around a bit. The trouble is that Susato no longer makes the...

Whistle shops in the Pacific NW of USA?

Hi -- I'm up north of Seattle. I know of Dusty Strings -- are there other places to play whistles in person in the region? Perhaps makers' shops?

Thanks.

Columbus, OH: whistle teacher needed

Hi! Looking for a teacher in the Columbus, OH area. My father is taking up the low D. I am going to help him out on skype, but it'd be nice to have a local person.

Thanks for any leads!
