Re: Darren Breslin CD

I checked Custy's website and could find no indication that they presently carry the CD.

Re: Darren Breslin CD

Hi John,

I posted this very same question in November; nobody responded. I still have no clue how to get Darren's CD. Wish I could be more helpful. Let me know if you figure it out!

Darren Breslin

I have heard rumors that the excellent Fermanagh box player Darren Breslin has a CD out, but I can't seem to find it anywhere online. Does anyone know where I might find it?

Try Connaughtman's Rambles, that's one of the first ones he learned. Connaughtman's Rambles is a great jig for the EC. Also try, The Lilting Banshee, Haste to the Wedding, Garryowen, Kesh Jig, The Sailor's Wife (Scottish), Merrily Kissed the Quaker's Wife. Reels: The Merry Blacksmith, Siver Spear, ...

Hi Ennistraveler,

I play English concertina too, mostly Irish but also Scottish, Cape Breton, and whatever. I tried C#/D button accordion and I'm currently trying to learn the one-row melodeon, but I find it so much more difficult than the EC. How long have you been playing?

Brett,

Have you checked with Michael at Irish Dancemaster Accordions? I'm not sure if he does bellows work but he specializes in reed replacement & tuning.

Mainly English concertina; I have a Jackie, a Stagi Tenor improved by Bob Tedrow, and 1920 Lachenal treble. Also started on the one-row melodeon (in D) after flirting with C#/D for a while. The press and draw style drives me crazy (after several years of playing English concertina you can imagine) b...

Nate, Sol, and Rob,

Many thanks for the suggestions. I will definitely follow up on all of them.

One-row tunes in D?

I have a one-row in D and would like suggestions for relatively easy Irish tunes for the one-row melodeon. Sol, how about some of those Newfoundland tunes? Links to transcriptions of said tunes would be much appreciated as well.

Thanks,

Garech's Wedding, written by Paddy Moloney I believe, is a lovely tune.

By the way, how are you coming along on the Weltmeister? Well, I'm still focusing on one-row playing at the moment, so I'm not taking full advantage of it. (Though I've experimented a bit, and it seems surprisingly natural to go to the outer row for accidentals.) But it's very nice to have. Remarka...

I am referring only to the Jackie, the sound of which has been characterized by some as being closer to a concertina-reeded instrument rather than the accordion-reeded instrument that it is. I've heard a Jackie, and I wouldn't say that at all. They spacing of the buttons is designed to be the same ...
