Re: Clogging, Toothpaste, Etc.
Has anyone tried carnauba wax? I've seen it used on cars where it makes the water stand in beads and run off easily, so perhaps it would make it easier for small beads to form and then blow out of the windway before they're big enough to become disruptive. If it works, it should be long lasting. If...

Re: Clogging, Toothpaste, Etc.
I know this topic has been talked about to death on here, but I'm still confused about it. I'm looking for solutions to clogging, and people keep talking about the "toothpaste solution." I'm not sure I've done this correctly, but I've tried putting toothpaste both in the windway and on th...

Re: New Double-Whistle Idea
After practicing Rondo Alla Turca a bit, it is indeed very difficult. But I'm confident I'll be able to play that portion up to speed with some practice. I'm playing that portion in G# minor instead of F# minor, since I have a D whistle. I'll also add that I think this is probably peak difficulty fo...

Re: New Double-Whistle Idea
I don't really get how you could think it's "easy" to adapt to new systems. There's nothing remotely "easy" about relearning all 1,000+ tunes you know on a new system. Sure, it's easier than starting from scratch and learning a new instrument as a beginner, but that doesn't mean...

Re: New Double-Whistle Idea
Regarding the first few points I made, you acknowledge that your new proposed design would be hard for woodwind players to transition to, which is my point. No I don't. I think it's easy to adapt to different systems, while the significant difficulties are those of the systems themselves. To judge ...

Re: New Double-Whistle Idea
Regarding the first few points I made, you acknowledge that your new proposed design would be hard for woodwind players to transition to, which is my point. I think the element you're missing is that this system will be MORE counterintuitive than, say, switching from flute to sax or sax to oboe or o...

Re: New Double-Whistle Idea
Just chiming in to say this is what Carbony does with their low D whistles. And it's also exactly the approach I think could be used to make a G sharp left-hand thumb hole for a high D whistle that was convenient to cover. This (combined with an F natural and D sharp hole, as previously discussed) ...

Re: New Double-Whistle Idea
On Bulgarian chanters they create the required extra depth by sticking a narrow tube (brass or even a hollow feather) in that hole. Where does it go? Straight back into the bore. Since the mormorka is directly across from the thumb-hole you have extra space for it to go, if you look into the thumb-...

Re: New Double-Whistle Idea
That said, I would love to try the Hungarian design. There's a really nice looking double sopilka for sale on Ebay, and it's in D. If it was fully chromatic, I'd probably buy it to try it out. Sadly, it's missing the F natural and D sharp holes. I'm saving my money until someone sells a fully chroma...

Re: New Double-Whistle Idea
I'm struggling to see how a slide whistle drone would compete against the design of that instrument used by the Hungarian group where it alternates between its two drone notes instantly. The sliding would either produce ugly sliding notes every time you switch between notes or you'd have to stop bl...

New Double-Whistle Idea
I was wondering if people could chime in regarding the possibility of making something like this. I've had this idea in my head for a week or two, and seems like it would work. Perhaps there's some reason it's impossible, which could be why it's never been tried. My idea is a 6-hole whistle combined...

Re: Clogging, Toothpaste, Etc.
As often as this topic comes up it honestly baffles me every time. Once I’ve got a whistle warmed up, I almost never have any issues with clogging at all. Cover the windway, couple strong breaths trough the whistle to warm it up, and then you’re away. Maybe it’s to do with my style of blowing, but ...

Posts keep messing up
If I try to post something more than a couple paragraphs long, I get a server error. Is this just me, or is this a known problem being worked on?
