Re: Harmonica Forums

Also, check out Paddy Richter harmonica tuning.
Brendan Power makes them for playing Irish music.
They are great for any melody based tunes.
Brendan sells them, as well as Seydel and Easttop, and I think Lee Oscar. Plus it’s easy to make your own. Just sharpen the blow 3 reed.

Send him an email.
I haven’t even purchased one of his instruments and he responded with kindness and helpful information.

Re: New “WARBL” MIDI Wind Controller

As a beginner I know I am interested. Being able to practice without bothering the dogs and family would be great. I can blow over the hole for almost silent practice, but this would be more fulfilling. The added sounds available through Midi would also be a lot of fun. Great clips by the way. I lov...

Re: Begin playing tin whistle

Thanks for all this. Helpful advice for all newbies. I’m new too. I haven’t tried OAIM yet but have been using Nigel Gatherer’ whistle tutorial. I’m having a lot of fun so far. As has been said, it’s a simple instrument, so simple you can go out in the garage and make one in an hour or so, but so mu...

Re: TWJCalc

Thank you! Between this, and Bracker’s site I now have more whistles than I know tunes. I have a tweaked Clarke original D, and a Chieftain F. I have attempted to build a few in various materials and bore depths playing with the algorithms and seeing what I can do. I’ve made a terrible low D, and a ...

Re: New to the whistle & forum, with a request already ...

This Looks cool. Nice work I also play harmonica, and am new to the whistle. Careful whistles are more addictive than harmonicas. This looks like it would be useful for learning a new tune, or for moving a tune from one instrument or tuning system to another, and for quick transcription between keys.

Re: Can't read it wrong

Protection is almost always a good idea when attempting to sow oats while airborne. Sometimes what I think is normal, isn’t. There are helicopters with pontoons that can land on the water, but the pontoons are heavy enough that they take up a lot of the payload. PS. I’ve never sown oats from a helic...

Re: Can't read it wrong

A helicopter could work in some areas, but range and payload are restricted when compared to fixed-wing aircraft. I sometimes use helicopters for seed dispersal in areas that are otherwise difficult to access. We suspend a hopper below the helicopter and the pilot can open and close the orifice to c...

Re: Foot operated drone

Very nice!
Those things are a bit pricey though.
I’d love to build something smaller and simpler with foot or knee bellows to make a drone while playing harmonica or whistle. I bet if I could get my hands on a cheap bellows I could build something to drone a few notes or chords.

Re: G/D Seydel Irish Sampler vs Irish Slide Diatonic

[Thread revival - Mod] If you already have a few Paddy Richter harps you can get a switch-harp mouthpiece from Brendan and put your own harmonicas in it. Then you can switch bodies whenever you want to get the keys or decorations you want. I recently got a Seydel version and have enjoyed messing ab...

Re: Anyone have any experience with Easttop Paddy Harmonicas

[Thread revival - Mod] I have an Easttop Paddy Richter in G. It’s a nice harmonica, much better than expected given the price. You can also get Easttop Lucky13 double Paddy Richter Harmonicas for about the price of a Seydel Paddy Richter. On those the first three holes are repeated an octave lower ...

Does the “some do, some don’t “ go for collecting too?
HAS and the Whistle equivalent may both be contagious and incurable.
Tinkering helps with some of the symptoms, but can turn into its own disease.

Re: D harmonica compromises

The Low D Manji from Suzuki is a nice harmonica that can be easily retuned, and it has a nice sound. Those Stainless Steel Seydels are nice too. Are commercial recommendations ok here? I recently got a tweaked and retuned Custom Paddy Richter LBb Thunderbird from an ITM player/ harmonica customizer ...
