It's only in theory that cracks never re-open, reality is certainly a little different. So we have a $3,000,000 Strad violin with a similar problem, a crack to a rib. What are you going to glue it with? Superglue? Titebond? It's pretty obvious to me and most expert restorers which is the correct glu...

Another pro luthier here. Leave the superglue well alone, it's a nightmare to deal with once it wicks into the wood, especially end grain. It also has a tendency to change the colour of the wood making any possible future 'invisible' repair impossible. Superglue may have it's uses but sides/backs an...

Damn whistle makers, must be pulling in more than your high flying Lawyer. All complaints should be directed to . . . . .. . . . Dale. Sorry but tube sold? immediately. Must have been that competitive pricing policy. I may return as a whistlemaker someday, who knows. Just got to figure out a way of ...

. . . to a good home. Wooden Boxwood tube in D but you will need a Susato head and perhaps a touch of PTFE. I now make things with strings on them
I'll even post free in the UK. First PM secures it.

England's star midfielders failed to perform. Gerrard, Lampard and Beckham all played well below their club form and if that part of the team fail to deliver you start to look very ordinary. They'll just have to go home and cry into the pop and crisps that they advertise. At least Zidane proved that...

All in the head?
Well, here's my attempt at moderating some of that Susato R*******y tone so loved by some. A valiant effort perhaps but I freely admit I can't hear much of a difference between the new tube and that of the original. Maybe it goes to prove that it really is in the head? Guess I'll have to go the whol...

I doubt it's the fault of friction pegs that is the cause of your tuning problems, more likely to be the actual fit of the pegs. Well fitted and there just isn't a problem - which is why violin makers have been using them for the last 400 years. Just have a thought for the Baroque lute player, he/sh...

Is this the one? Bach bouree BWV996 from the lute suite, played to death by all aspiring classical guitarists. Should be easy to find the dots online but you will probably have to change the key sig. I also suspect that Anderson improvised on the 'theme' - must be 25 years ago that I last listened t...

Richard Duke and Duke senior, English violin makers worked in London late 18th century. As makers they are both well known to the fiddle world and in actual fact 'copies' of Dukes are numerous. Usually they have a stamp just below the button on the back - DUKE, LONDON. This stamp alone does not make...
