Re: Delrin flute suggestions for 2024?

I'm also very interested in a keyed Delrin flute. I have a Forbes keyless with is very light and loud, with big holes and a big squarish embouchure cut. Nice tone, well in tune, loud. Big embouchure cut makes it hard work to get the air out of the tone. I have a Copley which is heavier, smaller embo...

Re: Symptoms of Blackwood allergy?

I worked with Cocobolo for a while. Beautiful wood, before long it got to the point where I was sneezing with a runny nose and then with unpleasant symptoms that felt like poisoning--mild feverishness, respiratory restriction. Needless to say I quit working with it. A while ago I found a small piece...

Re: Seeking to buy a Geoffrey Ellis Ebonite pratten flute

No help at all, but I have one and really like it a lot. Currently the headjoint is mated to a 19th century cocus 8-key body and the combination is a joy to play. I wish Geoffrey would go back to making them

Re: Inhaling through nose

I'm just happy to get through a tune!

I think taking a walk for an hour could confer far more health benefits than plying the flute for an hour, and for me considering the health benefits of playing flute are sort of like considering the vitamin content of chocolate

Re: Beginner flute upgrade: Galeon or Copley?

I have a copley delrin flute that I like a lot. At first I didn't--it was hard to get the "air" out of the tone. But as I've gotten a little better I've come to appreciate it more. It's quieter than my Olwell Pratten style and it feels different to play. The embouchure cut is a little smal...

Re: four month old flute cracks

So I've just come into possession of a new flute less than a week ago. I've been slowly playing it in and over the course of the past 6 days have played it for c. 1 hr in total. I found the flute a little bit breathy from the beginning and assumed it was an issue of getting used to the embouchure. ...

What type or style of music an Irish flute is not capable of playing when compared to the Boehm flute? 3. Is the Irish flute keywork operation...

Cream soda was common in the US in my Childhood, in the Philly area. It was basically vanilla soda. I never liked it. I don't see it much anymore, but it was really common fifty years ago See, we're coming up against another little Transatlantic puzzle: soda. I'm aware that Americans use that word ...

Helen O Shea is a very insightful writer and clearly loves Canny's playing

I wish they would make it available as a digital edition--shipping to the states in 18 euro, close to doubling the cost of the book
