Re: Rebooting my whistle playing after many years
Sara, I found Brother Steve's page a great place to reacquire the basics. http://www.rogermillington.com/siamsa/b ... index.html.

Re: Clarke Original D 200th Special Edition
Just in C. I don't have an Original black in D. If they consistently sound and play as nice as the Special Edition D I just received, they're an even more incredible value.

Clarke Original D 200th Special Edition
Ordered the Clarke Original D 200th Special Edition whistle on a whim -- thought the silver D with the nifty little gold plaque would make a nice collector's item even if didn't sound like an expensive custom job. I have to say this little whistle is blowing me away -- the tone is round and sweet an...

Re: Keeping Them Straight
Found a new strategy on a thread on another board that might work for me...incipits! The name of a tune followed by the first 2 - 4 bars...just enough to get the gears meshed on a tune. A little cheatsheet like this could have lots of tunes in a format small enough for a vest pocket, and would quick...

Keeping Them Straight
Old age is a terrible thing -- but I wasn't any better at this when I was young. So maybe it was the drugs, but... I cannot keep the names of jigs, reels, hornpipes, etc. connected to the tunes themselves. There are so many tunes with so many names...some with multiple names. And lots of them aren't...

Re: Kissing Frogs
Almost forgot -- right now The One True Whistle is a Sasuto Kildare V-Series soprano D. But I don't expect that will last.

Kissing Frogs
Philosophically, I believe in The One True Whistle. The One True Whistle is the one that is the most fun to play, is in tune with itself, can be tuned to other instruments within reason, and wouldn't send you to the therapist or the poor house if it got lost, broken, or stolen. The One True Whistle ...

Re: Listeners
Ya, that was my post, and I thanked both of you for your excellent suggestions. No idea why it disappeared, but then again, I'm practically a Luddite, so I probably goofed something...but not before I snagged me some Mary Bergin, Micho Russell, and Donncha O'Briain. Thanks again.

Re: Listeners
Thanks An Draighean. Found him, and snagged Rarities and Old Favorites. Excellent. Also ran across Mary Bergin and snagged Feadoga Stain. Seems like a lifetime of close listening right there. A few more like this, and I should have what I need.

Listeners
I've been a whistler for years, but now that I've stumbled on Brother Steve's page, I realize I've been wandering in the Outer Darkness, trying to pick up the style from books, notated music, and the occasional catchy tune that surfaces commercially in movie and TV soundtracks. What I think would he...
